Insider's Link to Productivity Newsletter         November 2010

Happy Thanksgiving! In the spirit of the holiday, we'd like to thank you for your willingness to make significant and measurable changes in your lives and organizations. We've seen tremendous breakthroughs take place in the landscapes of several Fortune 500 companies this year and it is largely due to the dedication of each of you.

In this edition of the Insider's Link to Productivity, we ask you to take part in an exercise to help you refocus on the important versus the urgent. We also offer insight from Jennifer Wilmoth, McGhee Consultant, as she shares how even the most experienced productivity experts can subconsciously fall back into trying to get it all done and what steps you can take if you've fallen into this limiting paradigm.

But this is simply not true.

In reality, most people are willing to wait a reasonable amount of time for responses to e-mail or voice mail without judgment or hassle. However, you've likely conditioned the people in your life to expect an immediate response from you and it's now time to recondition them to adhere to new standards by clarifying expected response times... More Read more

by: Jennifer Wilmoth, McGhee Consultant

With the end of the year approaching and the waning daylight causing my workday to feel shorter and shorter, I find myself ensnared in the illusory trap of trying to get it all done. One might think that after living the Take Back Your Life methodologies for over eight years, I’d recognize that getting one more thing done today does not equate to one less thing to do tomorrow.

So as I sit here feeling overwhelmed, I realize that it’s time (again!) to embrace the idea that I’ll never, never ever get it all done and that prioritizing and completing the strategic things is the most productive thing I can do. Yes, it’s true, even seasoned practitioners of productivity methodologies like myself fall off the wagon from time to time, and here are a few failsafe steps that I can take when I find myself off-course...
