Humbled, pastel, by Becky Golubski
"They reveal to me texture, shape, color and composition.  They are the reasons I love to paint." Elaine Willig
Turquoise accented in black coral, by Elaine Willig
Pierce City Arts Festival on June 9. Becky has ventured into plein air painting and has learned to use oil paints for her landscapes. Jewelry artist Elaine Willig sees jewelry as an extension of, and visual accent to, the wearer. It serves to showcase the personality, style, and character of the individual. "I design on many levels," Elaine said.  "I begin with a 'feeling' and sometimes it is a mental 'picture' that comes to me. I embrace it and breathe it. ... then 'color' becomes the defining step or theme and helps me to arrange stones in ways which show the energy of the original feeling." www.freshgallery.org. Find out this June! Also, enjoy Amy Byrum's ongoing show, Ode to Dysfunction. (417) 865-7055 www.goodgirlartgallery.com Open 11 a.m.-7 p.m. T-Sat

A Girl, a World Apart by Emily Million
takes the spotlight at Obelisk Home in June
Emily Million at Obelisk Home         Obelisk Home at the Inspired Commerce Building, 214 W. Phelps,  presents A Girl, a World Apart, a show by Emily Million. "Through this body of work, I am creating a visual language of and for the feminine story. Most pieces are built around the lone female protagonist as she fumbles her way toward a more essential identity and nature. The scenes, while echoing reality, are tied to an emotional landscape and a world that is neither literal nor conventional. In essence, the whole drama centers on 'Sophia'-wisdom personified-and the idea of a feminine identity whose root is wisdom-how she is formed, influenced, changed, lost and reclaimed." Carl's special photographic interests include landscapes, architecture and bridges. He also enjoys creating manipulated, colorful abstractions with a hint of surrealism and symbolism. "I became seriously interested in photography as a record of my explorations in the natural environment of southwest Missouri and northern Arkansas. I soon found that the hiking trips had become secondary to the photography," he said. "The thing I love about photography is that it sharpens my visual and emotional sensitivity to the world around me. The camera lens acts as a conduit to see beyond the mundane and focus on the beautiful interplay of light and space." Also enjoy a preview exhibit for Fiber Artist Rosemary Clause-Gray, whose full exhibit debuts July 6, plus demonstrations by Figment artists Ashley Haws and Darlene Prater, live music and free refreshments.
