Arnold Ebneter's World Distance Record Attempt
ARNOLD EBNETER's E-1
 |
After years of tweaking the E-1 design to get all the bugs worked out and optimize the engine/propeller performance, Arnold and his aircraft took flight. On July 25, 2010 on a warm sunny Sunday, everything fell into place and Arnold departed from Harvey Field for Paine Field to begin his journey on his attempt to set a new world record distance in the 300-500kg class of aircraft. Arnold did just that although the official results are still pending. The flight went well, and Arnold landed as planned at Shannon Airport in Fredericksburg, Virginia at 11:30 AM local time the next morning. He was met by an NAA representative, who took the barographs to verify the flight record. The record has also been submitted to the FAI as a claim for the world record.
This feat, along with many others and his impressive flying resume, and nearly 19,000 logged hours of flying time, make Arnold a local legend at Harvey Field. He has mentored and advised countless young aspiring aviators, and has not lost an ounce of enthusiasm, nor his love and joy for flying. In summary, Arnold has been actively involved in all aspects of aviation for almost 50 years --- possessing a wealth of knowledge and immense experience that has contributed significantly to aviation. He is truly an Elder Statesman of Aviation! by Kandace Harvey
