AVIATION FLIGHT CAMP ~ Harvey Field
 
 Aviation Youth CampThe popular Aviation Summer Flight Camp sponsored by Snohomish Flying Service is scheduled for August 10-13. This is by far the most popular and educational flight camp in the area! The aspiring young  camp participants take wings each day for an exciting half hour flight lesson with a professional flight instructor and enjoy daily field trips to places like the Museum of Flight in Seattle, the Museum of Flight Restoration Center in Everett, Paine Field ATC Tower, ATC Control Center in Auburn and a complete tour of  Harvey Field Operations including the Skydive Center and the Aircraft Maintenance and Fuel Service Operations. Enrollment is open to aspiring aviators between the ages of 11 and 15 years of age.  Space is limited and the flight camp roster fills rapidly; early registration is recommended.

The RNAV (GPS-A) Approach to RWY 33 at Harvey Field has been published.  The initial approach fix is HAVHA, over Lake Sammamish, and the final approach fix is at DEDBE, with a circle to land.


SPOT LANDING CONTEST MAY 31 at S43

The Spot Landing Contest made up of 20 enthusiastic Ace Pilots went off without a hitch on May 31 thanks to our sponsors.. ~ The Harvey Chapter WPA and Snohomish Flying Service.  Special appreciation is in order for the contest organizers; Erin Shaughnessy of SFS and Bill and Alice VanPelt, HF Tenants.  Let us not forget the cooks and clean-up crew; Heather Harvey Waldow, Terry and Paula Dawson and all the wonderful WPA Volunteers!
 
First place honors went to J.P. O'Donnell in his Cherokee, second place to Tom Hanni in his Cub Crafter, and third place to Greg Hunter in his Symphony.  Student Pilot Jannis Perkins received Honorable Mention flying a Skyhawk under the guidance of her instructor Brandon Bell.  Jannis actually landed closest to the line but unfortunately just inches short of the official marked touchdown point. 
 
A great time was had by all and the stories told at the BBQ and awards ceremony following the Ace Pilot Event grew even more dramatic with each pilot's recall of the Spot Landing event.  BLUE SKIES!

Bruce Williams
Bruce Williams worked on six versions of Microsoft Flight Simulator and is the author of Microsoft Flight Simulator as a Training Aid, published by ASA.  He now develops training materials and multimedia presentations for pilots and flight instructors.  Bruce will talk about GPS and WAAS for pilots in the Northwest.  A pilot and aviation writer, he is currently a flight instructor at Galvin Flying Services at Seattle's Boeing Field, and he offers specialized instruction through his company BruceAir, LLC.  His specialties are technically advanced aircraft; simulator instruction, stall/spin/upset recovery training, and aerobatics.
