Tips for clearing airport security checkpoints:
Avoid wearing clothing, jewelry or other accessories that contain metal when traveling through the security checkpoints:
- Heavy jewelry (including pins, necklaces, bracelets, rings, watches, earrings, body piercings, cuff links, lanyards or bolo ties)
- Clothing with metal buttons, snaps or studs
- Metal hair barrettes or other hair decoration
- Belt buckles
- Take metal items such as keys, loose change, mobile phones, pagers, and personal data assistants(PDAs) out of your pockets and place in the bins provided
- If you choose to wear an outer coat or jacket to the checkpoint, you will need to either place it in your carry-on or put it in the bin that is provided for you

From the desk of Trish Timmerman...
...my "bucket list" includes Antarctica and the Arctic (at the bottom and top)...
Unspoiled wildlife sanctuaries in a frosted wilderness, with ice as far as the eye can see...that sounds like a divine destination to me. Far beyond the reach and realm of conventional cruising, this is a Last Frontier for the traveler who's been everywhere and looking for something totally different.
The Polar regions are home to an abundance and diverse cluster of wildlife. In the Arctic you will find polar bears, arctic fox, seals, walruses, wolves, and reindeer. Sea lions, whales, albatross, terns and rookeries of penguins numbering in the tens of thousands are indigenous to the Antarctic.
For the curious and able, Silversea Expeditions offers cruises on the Prince Albert II. Sailing from January through March 2011, plus November & December 2011 in the remote destination of the Antarctic Peninsula & its surrounding Islands, the Prince Albert II offers the always luxury service and accommodations of Silversea Cruises.
In the Arctic and remote area of the north, May through August sailing as far north as Longyearbyen (the top of Norway), the Prince Albert II offers the Viking in you the legend and lore of the Leif Ericson and Eric the Red expeditions.
Visiting these unspoiled ends of the earth has been my passion for the longest time. I have vowed to myself I will get there!

from the desk of Julia Shore....
Two weeks ago I visited Jamaica and toured several hotels in Ocho Rios and the Montego Bay area.
The hotel of choice is the Ritz Carlton Golf and Spa Resort, Rose Hall, a luxury hotel and a idyllic escape. It features 427 guestrooms and suites, each with a private balcony or terrace, five exceptional dining venues, a championship golf course, and the Ritz spa featuring a unique selection of therapies.

The Kids program at the Ritz offers a variety of supervised physical and creative activities designed especially for children ages 5-12. The resort is conveniently located, just a 15 minute drive from the airport and only 1.5 hour flight from Ft. Lauderdale.
"Once you go, you know" (Jamaica Tourist Board slogan). Holiday space is still available, without a minimum stay...Ideal, for long weekend getaways or a week long beach vacation.
from the desk of Janet Pringle...
Pure Vida or "pure life" is the easiest way to sum up all that a Costa Rica vacation has to offer. This magnificent country is known for its pristine beauty, unlike any other place in the world. Some of the many activities offered include: white water rafting, hiking excursions, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, horseback rising and canopy tours.
The Springs Resort & Spa, 3 hours from San Jose airport, has raised the bar for excellence in the Arenal Valley. This new property is a 165 acre luxury boutique hotel ideal for luxury-seekers who want to experience the best of Arenal's natural surroundings without having to rough it. The average daytime high temperature of 80 degrees in the shade and nighttime lows averaging 70 degrees make this the ideal destination to enjoy countless comfortable hours in your balcony hammock, al fresco dining, or sipping a frothy tropical cocktail in one of their twelve therapeutic hot spring pools.
Las Veutanas is one of the resorts for restaurants and offers gourmet fusion cuisine. The only thing better than food is the view. All guest rooms and villas at The Springs Resort and Spa offer picturesque volcano views, private balconies, hammocks, rocking chairs and luxurious marble bathrooms.

Special Interests For a different Fall getaway...
The autumn colors abound in the mid south during October and
November. One of the loveliest spots is Kentucky's horse country. Its rolling fields and lush riverbanks are speckled with magnificent
maples, oaks, beeches and many more species. The beauty of the drive
on interstate 64 between Lexington and Louisville takes your breath
away.
Sightseeing is plentiful. Horse farms, the Derby Museum,
the Kentucky Horse Park, Bardstown and its famous My Ole Kentucky
home. And don't forget the Makers Mark Distillery!

Louisville's
historic Brown Hotel is an ideal base for discovering this area.
Opened in 1923 and recently refurbished, it conjures, up names such as
Lloyd George as the first guest on the register, Lilly Pons with her pet
lion, and Victor Mature as an elevator boy. Derby week at the Brown
has brought such guests as Harry Truman, Elizabeth Taylor, Joan
Crawford, Gene Autry, Eva Marie Saint, and Queen Elizabeth. And do
not forget Muhammad Ali, a local celebrity, who dedicated a suite named
for himself.
See below for another famous Brown tradition,
the Hot Brown Sandwich created by the hotel chef and served in the
English Grill since 1926
