Italy's legendary Lake Como welcomes the opening in May of the elegant luxury resort CastaDiva.
|
On the banks of Italy's Lake Como, tucked into an expansive, serene garden, the CastaDiva Resort promises to delight guests with stylish accommodations in a collection of distinctive mansions with names inspired by operatic heroines, from "Violetta" to "Leonora." CastaDiva's centerpiece will be the 18th-century Villa Roccabruna, the one-time residence of opera singer and Bellini muse Giuditta Pasta. It was here that Bellini wrote Norma and La Sonnambula. Soon, guests will be able to enjoy the same stunning views of the lake and the ever-changing play of light on the water's surface that once inspired the composer.
 | From a majestic pool floating right over the lake to charming garden paths winding past little brooks, to a spa evoking the elements of water, earth, fire and air, CastaDiva will offer world-class renewal to a privileged few. The spa's relaxation area, housed in a historic 19th-century dock, will invite guests to recline on chaise lounges placed dramatically on a glass floor suspended over the water. Fine Italian cuisine will be showcased at the resort's two exceptional restaurants, LeJardin and Orangerie. And each evening, the pool will be transformed into a dancing fountain to enchant guests with a show of lights and water choreographed to Italian arias.
Just beyond the resort, guests will find endless diversions: seven golf courses, hiking, and watersports ranging from diving to boating. Charming villages along Lake Como beckon visitors to explore streets steeped in tradition and cultural delights. And back at CastaDiva, luxurious guest rooms and suites, stylishly dressed in Como's famous silks, will await with the promise of romantic views of moonlight on the lake.

Dress Appropriately
Dress can often be a barrier to obtaining entry to a religious site. If you know that you will be traveling to religious sites, dress modestly and try to ensure that your clothing is loose in case you need to sit on the floor. Modest dressing may include anything from head covering to long sleeves to covered knees and/or ankles. Slip-on shoes will also be a help as many sites require guests to remove their shoes before entering.

For those of you who have sailed on Seabourn and enjoyed the breadsticks - or for those who just enjoy a delicious treat, this recipe is perfect for you!
Ingredients
- 1 1/4 tbsp. butter
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. sugar
- 1/2 tsp. yeast
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp. water
- egg wash: 1 egg yolk + 1 tbsp. water
Variations: course salt, sesame seeds, roasted onion, ground anise, mixed fresh herbs, hazelnut, chili, garlic, cajun spice
Instructions First, blend the butter (softened), salt, sugar, yeast, flour, and water together. Mix well to form dough. Next, flatten the dough on a cookie sheet, cover with cling wrap, and refrigerate for at least 24 hours.
Then, take a small handful of the dough and roll out through a pasta machine at number three or roll into a rectangle about 12" x 14" and 1/4" thick. Cut into small pieces and roll through pasta machine, using the fettuccine blade or cut 1/4 inch thin strips with a knife. Next, lay pieces on the cookie sheet and store at room temperature for one hour.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Finally, brush with egg wash, sprinkle with course salt or other variation(s), and bake at 400 degrees until golden brown.
Enjoy!
