Greetings!
Our summer mission season in Nicaragua is in full swing. In May, we welcomed missionaries from Georgia, St. Louis, New Orleans, Indiana, Maryland, and Maine. These groups have been working alongside our Nicaraguan staff daily to relieve the burden of impoverished people throughout the Chinandega area. In this issue, we feature some of our Education and Nutrition projects. We hope that you can get a sense of the excitement we feel when we begin a new project. We thank you for helping to make this possible for us.

| Every Community Needs a Playground... |
|
... a colorful new playground set, complete with twelve swings and criss-crossing monkey bars.
Our friends in New Iberia, LA, made this possible for the children of Villa Catalina, so that young children such as these three can play in a safe and structured environment.
They can challenge each other to pull-up contests and build both their muscles and confidence. And after a hard day of work parents can enjoy time with their children pushing them on these brand new swings.
We know that children thrive in free play. We hope to build more playgrounds in the other communities we serve. You can help us with this project by clicking here.
Do you remember swinging so high you almost touched the clouds? |

On the open land behind this little boy, there will soon be a brand new school building. This village, El Chonco, lies at the base of the Chonco volcano, is located 7 miles north of Chinandega and is home to 234 families. Community members have long desired a new school building. Through their cooperative spirits, they have managed for years with 3 small dilapidated school houses for 150 preschool through 3rd grade students. Some classes meet outside. The indoor classrooms boast dirt floors, no windows and roofs riddled with holes. The children bring their own chairs to school everyday. Four dedicated teachers tackle the thankless task of providing them with a basic education. Fourth and fifth grade students must travel long distances to attend school, often walking alone along the unsafe highway because their parents cannot afford bus fare. If this sounds hopeless, itīs not. Consider that each afternoon, adults attend classes to learn to read and write. The people of Chonco seem to grasp how important this new school will be to the future of their children. They have pledged to help Amigos build and maintain the school. We have already met their children and conducted nutrition studies (read more about SNAC to the left). We hope many of these children will join our Scholarship Program as they grow older. We see opportunity in this small community and we thank our donors for making this new school possible. |
