Group of the month!

Dr. Miller Surgical Team

They say March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb, but this March came roaring to end with the welcomed invasion of Dr. Denise Miller's surgical team.

This fantastic group of medics came from all across the United States to perform life-changing procedures in Nicaragua.  Almost 70  surgeries were performed, ranging from  gall bladder and mass removals, to hernia repairs and breast biopsies. Dr. Jim Morang, DDS, came along with our surgeons and performed 212 extractions.

Because healthcare comes at such a high cost, and money is scarce, residents of our communities signed up weeks in advance for treatment.

Thank you to Dr. Miller's surgical team for all your hard work and dedication! You have all changed the lives of many families here in Nicaragua.

Health Updates

Dr. Dinora with Patient
Our Focus is
Community Health

We are looking at many ways to expand and deepen the quality of our services. One of those is preventative health. We believe that through education and community health building, we can strengthen and improve the lives of many of our families. We want desperately to create an environment of healthy well-being, and that is the first step.  We have started holding health education talks in community clinics, evaluating current methods of examining and diagnosing patients and finding the source of many recurring illnesses in the rural communities. Dr. Dinorah is shown above seeing patients at Villa Catalina.

The second step is through funding. We feel the hurt more than ever during these financial hardships of recession in the States.  We humbly ask you to consider becoming a monthly or yearly donor by clicking here.  In addition to monetary contributions we are in need of medicine and supplies.  Please click here to view a fact sheet indicating where our needs are.  Needs are as small and simple as a bottle of children vitamins. Any and all help is welcome and needed!  Don't let our families suffer from lack services they should have access to; services we all take for granted in the States.

Roberto with MedicineThank you for giving us our chance to provide a brighter future for so many!  For an inspiring story of how one medical mission team made it their goal to change lives in Nicaragua, read our featured article to the left. Chacraseca - A New Pipe Dream Comes to Life
Where there's a will, we build a well
As always, Amigos is continuing to expand on the areas where we work throughout Nicaragua.  We would like to introduce you to the farming community of Chacraseca.  Located just outside of Leon on the western side of Nicaragua, this community struggles to keep their crops alive during the six dry months of the year.  We see hope in the people of Chacraseca, as we help them finish a project installing a water pipe line system throughout their community. The houses there are far apart and the work is hard and exhausting. Alongside the local Nicaraguans, recent mission groups from Flowery Branch, GA and San Jose, CA plowed through, digging almost 1 and a half miles of trench!  Click here to see more of what our water and sanitation team is working on in Nicaragua!
