Education Update
Graduation is Good News!  January 2009
Graduation Greetings!
Support Education in Nicaragua
You are receiving this message because you have a special interest in education. Perhaps you are an educator. Perhaps you recognize the benefits that education gives you and your family. Perhaps you are like Nance, pictured right. Nance is a mission trip veteran, who formed a bond with Jacqueline Reyes, pictured left. When Jacquie graduated from primary school on November 29, 2008, Nance was there to share the moment. Why? Because she sees a better future in this young girls' eyes. With Nance's encouragement and support, Jacquie will continue her studies at Ruben Dario secondary school as an Amigos for Christ scholarship student. One student at a time, the prospects brighten for all of Nicaragua.

Graduation Amigos Scholarship Students Graduate
The 2008 school year ended on an exciting note, as 15 scholarship students graduated from secondary or vocational schools. Some will pursue job opportunities, but many will advance their studies even further. Ignacia Poveda is pictured at her graduation from Colegio Ruben Dario. With her is her proud father, Eddy. Come February, Ignacia begins a new challenge at the University of Leon.  Congratulations to all our Amigos for Christ Scholars!

Graduation
It's On to High School, We Hope...

November 29, 2008 was a day to celebrate!  Ceremonies at Villa Santa Catalina, Villa Santa Matilda, and Los Rotarios (San Pablo) ushered in new opportunities for the boys and girls graduating the sixth grade.  The day was rewarding not only for the students, but also for all the parents and teachers who have motivated them. Many of the students will continue their education through high school and beyond with the help of the Amigos for Christ scholarship program. All three villages are supported by Amigos for Christ feeding programs and we hope to build on that relationship. A mission trip arriving on January 25, will focus on education initiatives and reach out to students, teachers and parents. Let us know if you are interested in supporting our education projects in Nicaragua too!
Backpack Drives Were a Success!
Georgia Southern University Christian Campus Fellowship and St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic parish in Alpharetta, Ga. held fall backpack drives to support the 2009 Amigos for Christ Scholarship Program. Over 100 scholarship students will begin classes on February 2 with new backpacks filled with supplies.
On behalf of the recipients, we thank both of these organizations for their readiness to help.

School Supplies Needed Year Round...
Please let us know if you would like to hold a backpack drive
in your area. Through our school feeding programs, we support hundreds of students of all ages in the Chinandega area. Our goal is to supply these students with the necessary supplies to ensure their academic success.  A filled backpack is a source of pride to a poor student with few possessions.  Due to the inclement rainy
season, backpacks have a short life in Nicaragua. Help us fill this vital need.
