Hazard Communication and Understanding MSDS
|
About 32 million employees work with, and are potentially exposed to,
one or more chemical hazards on the job. There are an estimated 650,000
existing chemical products, and hundreds of new ones being introduced annually.
This poses a serious problem for exposed workers and their employers. When
workers must deal with hazardous materials at the landfill, it is good common
sense to ensure that enough information is known about these chemicals to be
able to handle them safely. That's why
in the U.S. the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) created
the Hazardous Communication Standard (29CFR 1910.1200). It's based on the simple concept that workers
have both a need and a right to know certain things.
