If medical waste comes into your landfill on a regular basis, you should make sure that it is appropriately labeled.  These labels should be flourescent orange or orange-red, with lettering and symbols in a contrasting color.

Your crew should know how to recognize & respond to "Red Bags" because it can show up at your landfill...even if your stated policy prohibits it.

Bloodborne Pathogens
....are micro-organisms  that are carried in the human blood stream.  Landfill and Transfer Station employees can be at risk of exposure for Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and AIDS.
This exposure may be through needlesticks, sharps injuries, mucous membranes, and skin exposures. In 1991, OSHA issued the Bloodborne Pathogens Standard to protect workers from this risk of exposure.
