To minimize the amount of hazardous waste that comes into the landfill, post a sign at the entrance that says, "We practice random load checks for hazardous wastes.  We DO NOT accept paint thinner, batteries  etc."  Post this sign where people can easily read it and make sure you make those random load checks!
HAZARDOUS MATERIALS 
To be defined as a hazardous waste, a substance must either have the potential to cause serious injury, illness or death or threaten the environment.  It will have one or more of these characteristics: 
  • Flammable
  • Oxidizing
  • Toxic/Poisonous                      hazmat
  • Radioactive
  • Corrosive
  • Reactive
