When checking or adjusting tire pressure, always use a self attaching chuck and stand behind the tread of the tire-never stand facing the rim.  Over inflation or overheating cause tire explosion.  According to Caterpillar, a tire explosion can cause parts of the tire, rim or axle to fly as far as 1500'. 
Tires are a foundational part of vehicle safety.  Topic #60 talks about tire safety as it applies to a wide range of vehicles and machines and addresses the safety risks associated with tires.
