Al-Bustan is pleased to partner with GFS on multiple activities during the month of October:
· On Oct 7, Author Moustafa Bayoumi spoke to a High School Assembly about his book. . . read about it (and of his visit to Northeast High School) on our website. His talk was very well received, as History Teacher Marnie Kerr noted, "All of my students proclaimed Bayoumi as the best Assembly speaker they had ever heard."· Music Director Hanna Khoury and Percussionist Hafez El Ali Kotain are conducting a 5-week residency at GFS, teaching 7th grade students to sing Arabic songs and play percussion, with a culminating performance to all the middle school on Oct 27. Music Teacher Anne Hess remarked, "Our students are being challenged way beyond their comfort zones, finding great success and enjoying the whole experience immensely. The level of professionalism and musicianship from Al-Bustan's teachers is first-rate. Hanna and Hafez know how to draw the best out of students."· Al-Bustan presents a lively assembly of Arab Music to GFS Elementary School students on the morning of Oct 19.* * *
We thank GFS teachers and administrators for the opportunity to bring Arab arts and culture to their school community. And we encourage other educators to contact us for residencies and presentations at your school.
