Arab Music Course
for Adults held week of June 28: What a
Success!
As Al-Bustan's counselors and staff set up the classrooms and
hallways of Springside School in preparation for Al-Bustan Camp, twelve music teachers and musicians spent the week
learning about Arab music theory, melodic modes, rhythms and singing.
The course was led by Music Director Hanna
Khoury, with instructors Hicham Chami (qanun/lecturer), Hafez El Ali Kotain (percussion), and Adeeb Refela (oud). The week culminated with an entertaining evening recital featuring participants and faculty performing a variety of classical and folk Arab music and songs. In the words of one of the participants:
"What I came away with from this class is a profound appreciation and enthusiasm for the art of Arab music which I am excited to share with my students."
In partnership with University of the Arts-Professional Institute for Educators, the course will be offered again in June 2011!
