Simon Shaheen leads
Student Musicians
On February 7 and 8, acclaimed musician Simon Shaheen led workshops with the Kimmel Center Youth Jazz Ensemble and Al-Bustan's Philadelphia Arab Music Ensemble. Click here for a photo slideshow of Mr. Shaheen's visit and read coverage in the Philadelphia Inquirer.
While in Philadelphia, Mr. Shaheen and four music directors juried auditions for an All-Star Music Ensemble to perform in April concert with Shaheen. Congratulations to the 8 student musicians who won! And thank you to all who auditioned for their dedication and interest.

Expanding our Impact in Philadelphia Public Schools
 Al-Bustan's
teaching artists are busier than ever this semester, bringing students
weekly instruction in Arabic language and culture, percussion, folk dance, and visual art.
We have two new sites: Independence Charter School and Northeast High School; along with ongoing programs at John Moffet Elementary School, Penn Alexander School, and Science Leadership Academy (shown in above photo, high school students in percussion class with Kotain).

Don't miss your chance to see Al-Bustan students' work on display at Walnut Street West Library (40th/Walnut St. in West Phila). Al-Bustan staff have led Arabic name-writing and arts presentations for youth in West Phila community and students from Lea School and Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania.
