Come see beautiful artwork by young artists who participated in Al-Bustan workshops last spring with Tremain Smith.  The artwork integrates Arabic letters and words into encaustic painting.

In the opening reception held last Friday, guests learned about the encaustic process and made five collective panels that are now hanging in the gallery.

Al-Bustan Logo
On Wednesday September 23, the sounds of Arab classical music began to float through the parish hall at St. Mary's Church, as they will every Wednesday evening till May 2010 in West Philadelphia.  Singers and instrumental students of different ages are learning this semester a repertoire of classical music by the legendary Mohammad Abdel-Wahab.  

Under the direction of violin virtuoso Hanna Khoury, with master percussionist Hafez El Ali Kotain and oud player Adeeb Refela, the Ensemble is working towards their first performance on December 4 at U-Penn.  See  photos of weekly rehearsals in progress.
