It's Your Life!
A common scenario often unfolds when a teen moves away from home. Free of parental rules and eyes, he may experiment with breaking those rules, reasoning, "It's my life!". The teen forms his own opinion as to whether those rules were good or necessary.
Some do not learn and go into full-blown rebellion now that they are free from mom and dad. However, they become slaves to whatever they have submitted to. Perhaps they stay up all night, drink too much, eat junk food, and neglect other disciplines.
Many of us have been trained by spiritual leaders to take responsibility for our spiritual well-being and ministry, but many of us are not used to freedom. We are used to someone else telling us what to do.
One of the key principles of life coaching is that it's your life and you have the responsibility before God to discover your purpose and calling and live it. Paul reminded one man, "Take heed to the ministry which you have received in the Lord, that you may fulfill it." (Col 4:17)
What you have learned up to this point has prepared you for the new season. As you walk forward, you may realize you need more education or discipline or healing. You may realize God has put every person in your life for a reason:
- Some to receive from
- Some to give to
- Some to do both
When we choose interdependence and growth, we have people in our lives who help us follow through with healthy, positive accountability which is a sign of maturity and responsibility.
Healthy adults seek to repay/give back to their parents, spiritual leaders. Healthy adults seek to carry their own weight and make the load lighter for others.
- Whose load can you lighten? Who can you help?
- Who can you give back to?
- Who can help you grow?
Lesson to remember in this season:
Freedom comes with the responsibility to pursue Christ-likeness and to fulfill our ministries.
(Gal 5:13 NAS) For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. |
