Active Aging:  Review of Research Findings from ICAA

Using good resident assessment information to guide the development of highly personalized individual healthy aging plans as well as to target aggregate health and wellness programs to match the needs of older adults living independently is becoming increasingly critical to aging services organizations. The return on investment is improved healthy aging outcomes through a sophisticated, automated, web-based, data-driven approach.
"I felt so free when I was done with my conversation - it was as if everything was laid out on the table and I had someone there willing to help me with things of concern. I left there feeling so free and unburdened. It was a great experience. Everyone should do it."

Colleagues,

The International Council on Active Aging (ICAA) recently  published their research review newsletter.  An interesting list of studies were reviewed, including:

  • Less muscle strength leads to disability
  • Complementary and Alternative  Medicines (CAM) and alternative therapies favored by women in middle age
  • Car accidents reduced by cognitive training
  • Updated position statement on exercise and type 2 diabetes
  • Piano music inspires movement that reduces falls
  • Vision training improves eyesight
  • Boomers plan to stay in their unmodified homes
  • Women with osteoporosis improve bone health through exercise
  • Falls prevention information available
Click on this link to read about any of the themes above. You'll see a short description of each followed by a link to more details. To see the full list of topics scroll to the top of the page.

Hope everyone is well -- good wishes,

Neil Beresin
