CONVERSATION ON TECHNOLOGY POLICY - CYBER COMMUNITIES

Board President Rick Wetzel opened the conversation regarding the district technology policy.  The district technology committee is currently reviewing and working on new Acceptable Use Agreements which includes e-mail for students, blogs, Web 2.0.  The committee is creating three different agreements for the different levels:  elementary, middle school, high school.  The committee will be meeting on February 27th to continue their work.

The discussion concentrated on the importance of ethics when using technology and the new technology policy needs to be less restrictive than the current policy.

Mr. Mayberry presented the audit and reviewed the audit findings and recommended the district maintain and continue it's efforts to improve on the internal control structure that would prevent material financial statement misstatements from occuring; put these internal control procedures in writing; and have staff develop a staff reporting procedure to document the acknowledgement and follow-up of all comments submitted by the District's auditors.

Mr. Mayberry commended our staff for all of their time and assistance.

· Increasing student engagement
· Using technology as a visual tool
· Allowing for differentiation, re-teaching of concepts, and increasing   direct interaction or instruction
· Providing immediate or more personal feedback
· Maximizing class time to better meet student needs
· Increasing student-teacher-parent communication
· Providing a forum for students to express their ideas
· Addressing programming for special needs students
· Meeting 21st Century skill sets

The WPSD Technology Fair is not intended to train participants in any given technology, but merely provide a venue to share ideas and showcase a variety of technologies and their applications in the classroom.
