Happy Holidays!

As we move into the holidays, I would like to share with you some facts from our caring community.  Our students and staff brought in over 1,100 pounds of food for our community!  A special thanks to the student council for organizing this event.  Empty Bowls Night raised over $5,000.00 for the Community Cupboard.  It is truly a community of caring!

I would also like to thank our generous P.T.O. for sponsoring the production "Bowl of Dust" written and performed by the Manitou Art Theater.  It was a meaningful program about the Dust Bowl of the 1930s.  Our staff gathered pictures and interesting facts and presented them to the students before the performance.  Students and staff were amazed at the struggles and strength of the people who survived this difficult time in history.  P.T.O. - thank you once again for your continued support!

Join us for an evening of musical talent and special visit from a jolly fellow!  December 10, 2008 @ 6:30 p.m.  P.T. O. Holiday Social.  Our own Gateway Choir will perform, along with musical selections from the Woodland Park High School Madrigals.

Shhh...... secrets await!  Santa's Secret Shop will be open on Monday December 8.  Our students look forward to this opportunity to surprise their family members with special gifts.  The students will have an opportunity to shop during the day.  If you are interested in helping our many shoppers, please contact us at Gateway.  Santa's Secret Shop will be held in the Media Center (library) this year.

Thank you again for sharing your precious gifts with us - your children.  They are an absolute joy!

Happy Holidays and may 2009 bring many blessings to you and yours!

With kids in mind and heart,
Kay Lynn Waddell
Principal

MUSIC HAPPENINGS        Mrs Levin

xmas notesDECEMBER MUSIC NOTES . . . .
The sounds of the holidays will be evident in the music room with all the grade levels practicing a special song to share at the singalong on December 19.  Christmas carols will be learned as part of our diverse American musical heritage, and several grades will learn about the traditions of Hannukah by singing and dancing to Jewish songs.  We will study La Posada along with Mexican songs and playing Latin rhythm instruments.   All students will also learn about the composer of the month,  Peter Tchaikovsky, and his most famous work, the Nutcracker Suite.

Next meeting:  Tuesday, December 9th, 8:00 a.m., Mrs. Ellington's room.  (Please note that the Angel Tree note said December 11th.  The correct date is December 9th)

Thank you to all those K-Kids coming to help with Breakfast with Santa this Saturday from 9:00-11:00.  It is always fun when you're helping to spread the Spirit of Christmas!

K-Kids are also sponsoring an angel from the Angel Tree.  Please return your note signed by a parent so that I will know if you are participating.  If you are not able to participate for any reason, please let me know so that we can have someone else buy for your angel.   Please have your presents for your angel ready on December 9th.  I know that these angels are going to love the presents that are bought for them.

K-Kids are going to be helping to develop our butterfly habitat this year in front of the school.  They have already been out there during their recess removing grass clumps that were tilled up and measuring the perimeter for a grant that we're trying to get.  There will be more projects coming up as spring comes closer.  We are hoping to have it planted by the end of the school year.

K-Kids is open to all 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders.  It's not too late to join.  If you like helping others, come to one of our meetings.  Hope to see you there!

Happy Hands Children's Museum

November 19, 2008
We want to thank the community for their support of the recent fund raising efforts conducted for Happy Hands Children's Museum. We had a lot of fun tasting some delicious Tastefully Simple products and checking out all of the many personalized books available from Brighter Learning and the Earth Friendly toys from ImagiPLAY.
We are planning on being in the Lighter Side of Christmas Parade in Woodland Park on Sat. Dec. 6. We need to have as many children and their parents take part in this event as we can get. If you would like to take part, please contact us so that we can be sure to include you in this fun event. We are also accepting sponsorships from local business and families. Call or e-mail us for more information.
Just a reminder that the National Wildlife Federation will donate 25% of the subscription price of $19.95 to our museum. Go to www.nwf.org/museums and order one or more of their wonderful publications like Ranger Rick, Your Big Backyard or Wild Animal Baby. Enter Special Order Number: PACM5361. They'll handle the rest. It's just that easy. Do your holiday shopping on-line!
If you would like to help us in other ways, or make a tax-deductible donation, please feel free to contact us. There are many ways for you to help. We need volunteers and funds, so the opportunities are endless.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to call us. Thank you for your support.
