Happy Holidays!! As principal of Woodland Park High School I am inspired daily by the young men and women of our school working together to achieve excellence. I am in awe at their efforts to be the best they can be as students, athletes, artists and leaders.
As the school year continues we are beginning to hear from seniors about their college plans. Our students are very impressive and are competitive against any other students in the state. As of this letter Woodland Park High School students have already been accepted to Georgetown, University of Chicago, the United States Air Force Academy and the United States Naval Academy, just to name a few. I am sure that many other highly prestigious universities will have Woodland Park graduates studying at their institutions.
When we, as a community, reflect on the education provided to our students, it is clear that we are blessed with outstanding students, parent support and teachers. We need to celebrate our community school for all of the accomplishments. Take some time to visit the school and become involved in all of the great things happening here.
Sincerely, Del Garrick Principal, Woodland Park High School

Reach for the Stars!
As we approach the holiday season, the counseling center staff would like to wish you and yours a safe and happy season. We're putting the wraps on a successful semester for your students here in the office. When we come back for the new year, please keep in mind that your son/daughter is always welcome in counseling. We want them to understand that the counseling center has an open door policy and that we are interested in their lives. Also, when we return we will be working with the principals on next year's master schedule and registration procedures for our kids. The Area Vocational Program recipients for 09-10 will also be notified shortly. A couple quick items for senior parents to remember, have your student bring in letters of acceptance to colleges and award letters of scholarships to Mrs. Davies, our Registrar, right here in counseling. She will make a photocopy for the file. That is also how we keep track of our scholarship recipients for Awards Night in May. Our annual financial aid night is coming up on Jan. 21st in the auditorium at 6:00 p.m. Have a nice break and we will talk to you soon.
Thank you,
Mark Martin, Senior Counselor

Updates from Brian Gustafson
Greetings, Panther fans! Well, Winter Sports and Activities are in competition mode and the holidays surround us. There is certainly no shortage of entertainment and involvement opportunities within the district at this time of the year. From the elementary schools to the high school, December evenings have been filled with the voices and sounds of our extremely talented students as they performed a variety of holiday-related events. Concerts, dances, and Madrigals...oh my! As break arrives we will all be overflowing with holiday cheer. The holiday season also coincides with fierce competition. At WPHS, the Forensics team recently held a home Congress event that was extremely successful. The WPHS Forensics team garnered 2nd place honors at the home event. Additionally, Boys' Basketball, Girls' Basketball and Wrestling are all just in the infancy of their competitive schedules but league competition will really heat up in January. After break, both basketball teams will open league play against the Lewis Palmer Rangers on January 8th. The Girls will be at home and the Boys will be on the road. JV and Varsity Wrestlers will resume competition on January as they host the Mitchell Marauders. Be sure to get a glow stick and pack the North Gym for exciting wrestling action under the spotlight.
Obviously, this is definitely a busy time of the year and I am thankful for the commitment and enthusiasm of our coaches, sponsors and most importantly, participants while they balance commitments to family, friends and academics. Good luck to all of our participants in 2009. Enjoy a relaxing and safe Winter Break. If schedule information is ever needed, be sure to go to www.highschoolsports.net. Happy Holidays from the Panthers and GO GREEN!
