Alternative Education Program on the Move!!
The Alternative Education Program participated in a Ropes Course at Blue Mountain Ranch on September 4th. A Ropes Course is a challenging outdoor personal development and team building program, which consists of high and low elements. The low elements portion of the course teaches group initiative, trust building and other activities designed to reduce inhibitions and break down barriers. The high elements are designed to teach self initiative, communication and risk perception, which are essential skills necessary for all adult decision making. The Alternative Education students from Woodland Park High School completed all elements on both the low and high courses, with courage, skill, trust and an undeniable spirit of support for one another.

K-Kids Program at Columbine Elementary
Students are in for another fun-filled year in K-Kids. This year meetings will be held in Miss McWilliams' classroom after school from 3:50-5:00pm on the second Thursday of each month. Please make arrangements for transportation after the meeting. Please bring club dues of $6 for healthy snacks provided during the year and don't forget your K-Kids T-shirts! K-Kids is a fantastic 'student-led' community-service club offered to Columbine students over 6 years of age. K-Kids is sponsored by the Woodland Park Kiwanis club. Now the largest service organization for elementary school students worldwide, K-Kids provides students with the opportunity to become leaders in their school/community while learning the importance of providing service to others. Students elect their own officers and help select our volunteer service projects. Join us for our first meeting to see just how much fun it can be helping others! For more information contact the club advisors: Shannon McWilliams (at school 686-2300) Spencer Miller (210-0498)

Summit Elementary School's Eagle Logo Gets a Facelift
The Summit Eagle has been the building's mascot since the building first opened its doors. During the first 15 years of operation the Eagle has undergone a variety of looks that have been used on school t-shirts, and last year Summit Elementary School's PTSO decided to pursue a new look for our mascot. At Summit, part of our school mission is to, "promote an appreciation for the arts," and it was agreed that one way we could do that was to ask our student body to submit artwork on what they envisioned as the next Summit Eagle. After viewing numerous submissions, one student's artwork was selected as Summit Elementary School's next Eagle. On Friday, September 5th, 2008, Milena Barnes was recognized for her Eagle design and she was presented with the first printing of the Summit Elementary School t-shirt utilizing the new school mascot. Summit Elementary School's PTSO will be selling t-shirts with the new design throughout the 2008-2009 school year, beginning with the Annual Ice Cream Social on September 5th. Congratulations Milena for the wonderful gift that you have provided the students, staff, and families of Summit through your picture of our Summit Eagle. This is just another great example in an outstanding tradition at Summit Elementary School of the creativity and effort that our students put toward everything they try. Way to go Milena!
