DC School Students Visit Gandhi Center

On December 9, 2011 DC Public School Students visited the Gandhi Center to learn about Gandhi and India. Listening to folk tales and tasting Indian treats, these very young children (for the first field trip of their lives) enjoyed the experience of learning about a land and culture different from their own. Their visit was a program presented by the Gandhi Memorial Center through the Arts for Every Student Program of the DC Arts and Humanities Education Collaborative.

During Spring 2012, the Gandhi Memorial Center will present a course for the members of OLLI on, "India: Culture, Tradition and Gandhi". This will be the fourth year that this course will be voluntarily offered to this group of retired professionals covering a range of topics including: Gandhian thought, the arts and literature of India, tribal customs, the music and poetry of Rabindranath Tagore, and an introduction to the development of Indian languages.

Each year the Gandhi Center has had the great privilege to draw upon the knowledge and talents of a number of individuals from the Indian community to share their insights as well as offer demonstrations of music and dance for this course.
