Greetings,
Bender pic
November has been an exciting and busy month in the world of public health accreditation. PHAB was pleased to welcome the 30 beta test sites to Washington, DC for a two-day meeting to begin the work of the accreditation beta test. This valuable face-to-face interaction allowed us to talk in detail about the activities the sites will be involved with over the coming year, and allowed them to meet the various beta test partners. Their enthusiasm and energy was contagious as they geared up to contribute to the transformational change that accreditation will bring to public health's continuous quality and performance improvement.

PHAB also held the First Annual Accreditation Recognition Dinner on November 11th. We were pleased to welcome Dr. Risa Lavizzo-Mourey, President and CEO of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, as our keynote speaker. PHAB recognized the incredible hard work and dedication of our Workgroups, Board members, founders, and funders. We look forward to continuing this tradition in years to come to recognize the contributions of our valuable partners on the federal, state and local levels.

Finally, we are proud to announce that the PHAB Web site has been updated and enhanced. Please visit www.phaboard.org to learn about our program developments, review beta test documents, and learn about recent news. Please stay posted in the coming weeks for the launch of the feedback system, which will allow visitors to provide comments on accreditation documents directly through our Web site.

As we head into the Thanksgiving holiday, we want to take a moment to show our thanks and gratitude to the many individuals and organizations that support PHAB and make our work possible. Without you, we could not be helping to reshape the future of public health as we are.

BETA TEST HEALTH DEPARTMENT TRAINING

On November 4 and 5, PHAB conducted a two-day meeting that marked the start of the year-long accreditation beta test process. At the meeting were the 30 beta sites, PHAB's partners (ASTHO, NACCHO, NALBOH, NIHB, CDC and RWJF), and the team that will be evaluating the process during the test. There were approximately 70 people in attendance, as each site sent 1-2 representatives. The high-energy training was packed with productive sessions, Q&A, information-sharing, and lively interaction between the groups.

Over the course of the two days, the beta test sites learned the details of the accreditation process, were introduced to the PHAB materials they will be using and reviewing (accreditation guide, readiness checklist, Statement of Intent, interpretation of standards and measures, and self-assessment tool), reviewed the beta test timeframes, and saw a demonstration of the online application process. They also learned how the beta test will be evaluated by the National Opinion Research Center (NORC), and what kinds and forms of feedback they will be providing. The beta test sites will be responsible for completing a monthly log to track the time and costs of accreditation, participating in interviews, and completing questionnaires about the accreditation process and materials.
