The above "Tiled Viking Ship" is a picture taken at the site of the old Charles B. Reynolds Memorial Entrance to the Northeast Field that is behind the school. The Memorial Entrance is gone but the tiled artwork is still in pretty good shape (Picture was enhanced a little). If anyone knows any history behind this piece of art such as the person who installed it, etc, please contact salfanara@comcast.net |

ADOPT A FAMILY FOR CHRISTMAS
NE Alumni:
This year, as in years past, the Salvation Army is promoting "ADOPT A FAMILY FOR THE HOLIDAYS". There are record numbers of families requesting help this holiday season. The family size will vary and they are requesting a gift for the children (the child will make a request like last year) and a $30 grocery gift card for the parent to purchase food for their Christmas meal. It would be nice this year to meet the need for a Christmas meal as well as a gift for the child/children. As large and generous as our alumni are, we could adopt a large family or several smaller families in need.
Some of us may not have time to shop for a gift, but could easily pick up a gift card from the grocery store; while others enjoy shopping for that perfect child's Christmas present. Please let me know ASAP if you would like to participate in the program so I will know how many families to request. Also, please give me an indication if you would rather purchase a gift card for food or a gift for a child, or both.
Please bring your gift cards and/or childs gift to our December Social. If you cannot make it, you can send your gifts with another member.
Harris-Kearney House Museum - $4.50
Saturday, Dec 4th 7:00 pm tour
4000 Baltimore, KC, MO 64111
The tour is conducted by candlelight and guides dress in period clothing. This museum is the oldest house still standing in KC, built in 1855 and built in the Greek Revival style. (12 people on each tour with 15 min. between each tour), then as each group is finished, they could leave. There is a special room with artifacts to look at while each group is waiting for their tour.
If you'd like to have dinner before, McCoys is just 3 blocks away (they accept reservations), then plan to meet at the house by 7 pm for the first tour. McCoys restaurant has a varied menu and the prices are reasonable.
Thanks to the most generous gift-giving group I know....last year was a HUGE success and it was a joy to be able to know our toys made a difference in a child's life. It's hard to imagine that a gift can be that important, but can you imagine when you were a child not having several gifts under the tree at Christmas? Imagine not having even 1 gift...imagine not having a Christmas Tree ...imagine not having food on the table....
Thanks for all your help!
