VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT
Alice Winn

In December, DMCC volunteer driver Alice Winn will have lived in Del Mar for fifty years! Born into a Navy family in nearby Coronado, she traveled throughout the United States while growing up. Alice graduated from USC with a degree in education, married, and raised three children in Del Mar. She taught school, volunteered for the Little League and chaired the Red Cross Backyard Swim Program which taught many Del Mar children the basics of swimming and water safety. Alice has traveled and camped, hunted and fished extensively in Mexico. Once retired, she satisfied an earlier interest in riding and was ultimately able to compete with her Quarter Horses on the national circuit. Currently, in addition to volunteering with DMCC, Alice tutors at Del Mar Heights Elementary School in the "Everyone A Reader" program. She can also be found early every morning on Del Mar's north beach with her dog, Jade.

Alice found out about DMCC through friends. She knew several who used the program for transportation. As she enjoys driving, Alice felt providing rides would be a good use of her time. This has proven to be true and she continues to enjoy and learn from the wonderful clients DMCC has sent her way. Alice affectionately refers to her riders as "Miss Daisys". According to Alice, Jade is a favorite with her "Miss Daisys" and joins her on most volunteer driving trips.

In the past year and a half, Alice has provided more volunteer rides than any other DMCC volunteer driver. Our most sincere thanks to you, Alice (and Jade)!
