VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT
David Paa
David Paa, our van host extraordinaire, was introduced to Del Mar Community Connections by one of our Board members, Buck Abell, whom he met as a tuba player in the 80-piece Coastal Community Concert Band. According to David, volunteering with DMCC "seemed like a good way to meet neighbors and to learn about Del Mar by helping to keep senior citizens active." David started out assisting grocery shoppers on DMCC's old bus, and has since been a regular host on the weekly van shuttle to and from the local markets.
David and his wife, Arline, have lived in the San Diego area since 1972. After two years in the Army, David joined the departments of neuroscience and pediatrics at UC San Diego, spending his time in pediatric neurology patient care and teaching medical students and residents. These days, David and Arline devote a lot of their time and energy visiting their four children and eight grandchildren in London (England), Concord (Massachusetts), Boulder (Colorado), and San Francisco (California).
David continues to associate with Rady Children's Hospital as a volunteer on the Hematology and Oncology service and as a member of the Medical Ethics Committee. He also volunteers as a docent at Torrey Pines State Reserve and the San Diego Maritime Museum, and as a Case Assessor Program Team member with Voices for Children for the San Diego Court system. We are so very fortunate to have David share his time with DMCC as well. Thank you, David!
