Are You Opera Season Ticket Subscribers?
DMCC is researching offering a van trip once a month to transport season Opera ticket holders there and back.

We have room for 9 passengers plus the driver (a total of ten).  Our vehicle is a Mercedes Benz Sprinter van, which is comfortable and
quiet.  The suggested van donation will be $10 per person for the round trip.  Priority participation will be given to seniors.

The plan is to leave about 4 pm from the City Hall lot so that riders may grab a bite to eat at the Westgate or nearby eatery and also have time to attend the pre-show talk.

Initially, we are only planning the trip on one night during each performance, and because Tuesday evening is the senior discount night,
that is the evening of choice we will drive the van.  If there is a great deal of response for another day, we might be willing to add an additional trip on that day.

We already have 4 confirmed people who have Tuesday evening season tickets already purchased and would be interested in taking the van round trip if we do end up driving folks to the opera on that day/evening.

We hope you will consider this opportunity and let us know if you are interested. If you know others that may be interested, please feel free to forward this information to them.  Naturally, we wish to make a determination soon, so that you can purchase your season tickets as quickly as possible.

Call 858-792-7565 or email dmcc@dmcc.cc.

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT
Jose Garcia

We are pleased to kick off our new DMCC Volunteer Spotlight column by honoring Jose Garcia, a proud volunteer with DMCC since 2007.  Jose lends a helping hand as a friendly visitor and driver for our more home-bound seniors. In addition, he helps out at the annual flu shot clinic and our luncheons and teas assisting with set up, clean up and serving. At our Spring Tea in April 2012, Jose judged the spring bonnet contest, a difficult assignment among so many well-hatted women!

Jose runs his own business, Good Housekeeping by Jose, and has been in the housekeeping business for about 30 years. He also serves as a spiritual life coach, helping others to empower themselves and develop ways to reduce their stress. In his spare time, Jose enjoys reading, walking, bicycling, and going to movies and street fairs.

Throughout his life, Jose has been interested in providing service to others. When he first moved to the Del Mar area about 9 years ago, he knew he wanted to do something for the community. Initially, he volunteered at beach clean-up events. He preferred, however, to be more involved with people on a personal level, and thus began volunteering with DMCC. Jose especially enjoys listening to seniors tell their stories about Del Mar and what they have accomplished to improve Del Mar as a city. At the same time, he enjoys providing the seniors with social interaction and assistance in maintaining a positive outlook. Jose emphasizes that his appreciation for the seniors and their appreciation for him is mutual, making his volunteer experience with DMCC all the more fulfilling.

Thanks so very much for all you do for DMCC, Jose!
