Brain Fitness Activity of the Month

Get Exercise.
The task:
Brain health is another reason to get on your bicycle, to the swimming pool or wherever else you like to exercise your body.
The reason: New research indicates that exercise has positive benefits for the hippocampus, a brain structure that is important for learning and memory. It can even help your brain create new cells.

Thanksgiving

Poem

May your stuffing be tasty,
May your turkey be plump,
May your potatoes and gravy
Have nary a lump.
May your yams be delicious
And your pies take the prize,
And may your Thanksgiving dinner
Stay off your thighs!

DMCC's Volunteer Corps:  The Power of 4

FOUR HOURS A MONTH

Del Mar Community Connections will launch its new In-Home Connections membership program in January 2011.  Our community volunteers will make the program a success by assisting our seniors to remain independent in their homes.

Experience first-hand how volunteering just four hours a month can significantly impact the life of a Del Mar senior.

Volunteers will be scheduled the same day each month (you get to choose your day!) and will be paired one-to-one with seniors who need assistance with tasks such as:

- "Friendly visits" or caregiver respite
- Daily welfare check phone calls
- Rides to medical appointments
- Prescriptions delivery
- Shopping
- Help with recordkeeping by sorting and filing mail
- Delivery of take-out food from local restaurants to a senior
- Garbage day help taking trash cans to/from the street

Volunteers using their own vehicles will receive mileage reimbursement.

Call or email Jeannie Walsh, DMCC Member Services Coordinator, today to reserve a spot in our next volunteer orientation: 858-792-7570 or Jeannie@dmcc.cc.

10th Anniversay Gift Needs A Match

Donors can designate other programs that they wish to sponsor. Will you help us meet the challenge?
