Tue, 9/1  9:30 am-2:30 pm Free Museum Day @ Balboa Park - Bring  a lunch or dine on your own at a restaurant in the park.  Free museums include Reuben H. Fleet Science Center, Centro Cultural de la Raza, Model Railroad Museum,  Natural History Museum, Timken Museum of Art.
 
Wed, 9/9  La Costa Glen Dinner & Tour - 3:45 - 7:15 pm - La Costa Glen offers a variety of 77 villas, 29 garden villas, and 539 apartment homes, contained securely on 55 acres in a park-like preserve. Mon, 9/28   Shopping Trip to UTC - 9:30 am to 1 pm - Shop 'til you drop and then join the group for lunch before returning home. 
Healthy Recipe Idea
Tasty Greens Saute 
Ingredients:
2 bunches greens, cleaned & de-stemmed (collard, kale or spinach)
1/2 onion, diced
8 garlic cloves, minced
1Tbsp cumin
1 Tbsp lemon juice
2-3 dashes balsamic vinegar
1 Tbsp olive oil
 
Saute onion & garlic in water until translucent in cast iron skillet.  Add cumin to garlic & onion mix.  Add greens & enough water to steam the vegetables & not burn the skillet.  Stir.
Cover & let steam until cooked, adding water if necessary.
Cool.
Mix lemon juice, olive oil & vinegar.
Pour over cooled greens & mix well to coat.

2009 Flu Shot Clinic
Thanks to everyone who has already signed up for our annual Flu Shot Clinic  scheduled for Wednesday, October 7, 2009.    Appointments are scheduled every 15 minutes (no appointments between noon and 12:30) from 9 am to 3 pm.  There's still time to book your appointment!  Register now by email or call 858-792-7565.

Ongoing DMCC Services 

Unless noted otherwise, call DMCC at 858-792-7565 for more information on any of the following activities.  
 
Medication Reminder Calls can be especially helpful after returning home from the hospital to remind you to take your important medications.
 
Are You Okay? Program provides a daily check-up call to make sure that you answer your phone at a designated time.  Unanswered calls trigger a follow-up response by DMCC personnel to make sure you are okay.  
 
Care Management Consultation Services help older people and their families develop solutions to the challenges of aging such as future long-term care needs and arrangements for in-home care.  Darcy Mulholland, MSW, is available to meet with you and make recommendations to help you live safely at home. 
 
Rides to Medical Appointments:  DMCC volunteers, using their own cars, drive City of Del Mar residents to medical appointments.  Call a week in advance to reserve a ride.  
 
Dial-A-Ride Taxi Vouchers for seniors over age 62 and residents with special needs who live in the City of Del Mar are available through DMCC.   
 
Medicare question?  A HICAP (Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program) counselor is available at the DMCC office the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month from 9am to 12 noon. If you need help with your prescription drug plans, Medicare Advantage plans, Medicare supplement insurance, long term care insurance, or health claim appeals, call HICAP for a free appointment: 1-800-434-0222.

Lunch at Del Mar's newest restaurant - while enjoying table conversation, questions and answers with Darcy Mulholland, Care Manager for DMCC's Care Management Program.  Darcy can help our older residents and their families develop solutions to the challenges of aging such as future long-term care needs, arrangements for in-home care and personal care issues.  This is the first of regular monthly meetings with different topics each month.  Monday, November 9, 11 a.m. Zel's Del Mar. Light lunch served immediately following.
Do You Like to Dance?
New North County Senior Dance Venue 
North County Senior Dance Schedule adds a new venue with live entertainment the 2nd Wednesday of the Month!  Belmont Village will be hosting an afternoon of dancing featuring live entertainment by the "Cradit Union" band starting Wednesday, September 9, 1:30 - 3:30; $4 donation.  3535 Manchester Ave., Cardiff.
