Dear Friends, Neighbors and Supporters,
Don't miss our annual Valentine Tea on February 9th
from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm at the Powerhouse. We
will "Remember When" with Del Mar's Storyteller,
Don Terwilliger, who will transport us back to the
50's and Del Mar's cityhood. Dodie Stevens will sing
her classic hit song from 1959 "Pink Shoelaces" and
more of her favorites. Bring your memories and tell
your stories about where you were in 1959.
The 1950's Photo Project has snowballed and is now
a citywide event on display in the Annex, so it's not
too late to dig deep into your closet and pull out
your favorite photo from the 50's. You may scan
it yourself and submit via email, or stop by the
office with it; scanning takes only a couple of
minutes and we can return the photo to you right
there. This project will continue through 2009.
Our beloved Dr. Mark Kalina returns this month with
his popular healthy aging Health Forum discussions;
see the Events & Activities section for details.
We are missing our dear Board member, Beth Levine,
who is in the snowy part of Europe with her
husband, Henry Abarbanel. They will return
next December after their yearlong sabbatical.
Founding Director, Mary Ann Emerson has returned
to the Board to occupy Beth's place. It is a wish
come true to have Mary Ann back with us.
Our care manager consultant, Darcy Mulholland MSW,
is now available to help you free of charge to assess
and find the resources you need to maintain your
quality of life with more security and independence
during those challenging physical times. To further
assist the continuation of your quality of life during
a health crisis, I recommend that you groom
someone whether s/he is a family member, a long-
time friend or neighbor to become your
"helicopter parent". Read more about "helicopter
parents" in the newsletter article.
We sorrowfully bid farewell to a cherished DMCC Bus
Host and familiar face around town: Dr. Dave Oberlin
is moving to Rancho Bernardo to live with his
children. Dave, we thank you for making our community
a better place by volunteering and participating in
our events. You'll be missed!
Until next month,
Shirley King,
President
