No Computer?
Be On Our Mailing List
Many of our older neighbors do not own or know how to operate a computer, so they miss out on all the great information contained in our monthly newsletter and other email blasts about upcoming events.  If you know someone in this situation, we encourage you to either print out a copy of the DMCC emails to share with them or have them call the DMCC office to be placed on our mailing list to receive paper copies so that they can "stay connected" with Del Mar Community Connections events.  Call 858-792-7565.
Holiday Food Drive
Community Resource Center - Encinitas
In these struggling economic times, DMCC has received numerous calls for food and shelter and have referred many to the Community Resource Center in Encinitas. The Food Pantry at the Community Resource Center was greatly depleted after last years' fires and there is need to rebuild it for the holidays. There is need for non-perishable food items such as canned meats, fruits and vegetables, pasta meals with meat, jams and jellies, peanut butter, disposable diapers and baby wipes. Please drop off your donations at the DMCC office and we will ensure they get to the needy families served by the Community Resource Center. Deadline for November drop-offs is Friday, November 21st.
Holiday Office Closures
Changes to Grocery Shuttle Days
The DMCC office will be closed during the following holidays in November:

Tuesday, November 11 - Veteran's Day
Thursday, November 27 &
Friday, November 28 - Thanksgiving.

During Thanksgiving week, our Thursday Grocery Shuttle to Vons and Ralphs will run on Tuesday, November 25.  Please mark your calendars!

Did You Miss the DMCC Flu Shot Clinic?
Here's an Alternative
If you missed our flu shot clinic on October 8th, Sharp Senior Resource Center is offering Flu Vaccinations Wednesday, November 5, from 9 - 11 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1145 Evergreen, San Diego. No appointment is necessary.  Vaccinations are restricted to people age 60 and over or adults with a chronic illness.  $2 suggested donation.
Dear Friends, Neighbors and Supporters,
As of November 1st our care management consultation services begin. Care management consultation services help older people and their families develop solutions to the challenges of aging such as future long-term care darcyneeds and arrangements for in-home care. Darcy Mulholland, MSW, a Geriatric Care Manager with Elder Care Guides will be available to meet with you in your home to evaluate your situation from an objective point of view, discuss the challenges and help you identify solutions with a summary of recommendations - all to help you live safely at home. These free services are available to our residents living in the City of Del Mar. Just call our Program Director, Heather Glenn to make a referral.

We have just implemented our Telephone Reassurance program, a daily check-up call that is a part of Alert San Diego - the reverse 9-1-1 system. A daily automated telephone call check makes sure that you answer your phone at a designated time. This internet-based communication tool provides reports to our Program Director who then knows your response. You can enroll in the program by calling Heather Glenn at 792-7565. Remember that you can now register your cell phone number with the reverse 9-1-1 system by going to www.alertsandiego.com so that you will be notified of emergent events in our area.

Soon you will receive in the mail our calendar of Coffees and Conversations starting in January 2009. Don't miss any of them; we have an exceptional line up this year!  We will celebrate Del Mar's 50th year as an incorporated city with our Valentine Tea. Don Terwilliger will entertain us with stories from the good old days. Please bring a photo to show where you were in 1959.

Happy Thanksgiving and cherish all of those special moments with your family and friends.

Until next month!
Shirley King,
President
