EricIntroWelcome
Eric Phelps, Director - Grinspoon Institute for Jewish PhilanthropyEric Phelps

I was recently reminded that in the early days of Judaism, farmers brought their first fruits to the Temple as a sign of gratitude for the new harvest. Although we no longer live in an agrarian society, Jewish camp is a place where experiences and knowledge lead to the "first fruits" of growth and Jewish identity. At the GIJP, we are constantly striving to offer our participating camps knowledge and resources to help them tend to their campers, families, alumni, donors, and prospects and ensure that these relationships are fruitful.

For example, we are excited to announce a new partnership with the JCC Association to combine our efforts and resources to further impact JCCs and their resident and day camps throughout the JCC Movement. GIJP Mentor Natasha Dresner has worked closely with Aaron Selkow, Vice President, Program Services at JCCA to build this program that will provide knowledge and resources to further help these day and resident camps succeed.

In addition, GIJP Mentors Dan Kirsch and Julia Riseman also pass down knowledge about implementing successful Annual Giving Campaigns. These campaigns are important to ensure your camp can continue to serve Jewish children and families for generations to come. Kevin includes additional insight into how technology can help support these Annual Giving Campaigns.

Dan and Julia will also be leading further discussion on the topic of Annual Giving Campaigns in our May Webinar. Please sign up today if you haven't already done so. This will be our final Webinar until the Fall to allow all of you to focus on tending to your camps to realize the "first fruits" of your efforts.

Last but certainly not least, today is Grants Associate Adrianne Levine's last day at GIJP. She has left an indelible mark on our organization and will be missed by all of us. We wish her the best as she follows her dreams and takes on brand new challenges. Please contact Kirstin, Marcus, or your Mentor if you have any questions regarding Institute services or programs.

B'shalom,
Eric Phelps

Annual_Giving_ProgramPyramids and Pipelines: Building Annual Giving Programs That Last
By GIJP Mentors Dan Kirsch and Julia Riseman

PyramidsArchitecturally speaking, pipelines and pyramids may not be the flashiest of structures compared with, say, the Taj Mahal, the Guggenheim in Bilbao, or your newest camper cabin.

Strong, enduring, utilitarian - the pipeline and the pyramid are just the right images to highlight the importance of building your camp's annual giving program. Along with major gifts, capital campaigns, and Legacy programs (a.k.a. planned giving), annual giving is a key component of a comprehensive development program that is built for long-term growth and success. Strong Camps - Strong JCCs - Strong Communities

If you are a JCC owned or affiliated camp, this new Pilot Project is for you!

We are thrilled to announce that GIJP and JCC Association have formed a partnership to combine their efforts and resources to further impact JCCs and their resident and day camps throughout the JCC Movement.

The pilot project has just been launched on May 3, 2010 at the JCCs of North America Biennial in Atlanta, and we already have a number of camps and JCCs that have expressed their interest.  The number of groups that will be accepted is limited, so click here now to learn more about the program.  Applications are due by June 15, 2010 and selection of pilot participants will follow soon after.  For questions, contact Aaron Selkow at JCC Association or Natasha Dresner at GIJP.
