EricIntroFirst Snow of the Season
By Eric Phelps, Director, GIJPEric Phelps
This morning's first snow of the season lies in stark contrast to the grassy fields of summer camp.  The winter weather also marks a sharp difference between the warm days of the recent GIJP Camp Conference, during which many of us sat outside at picnic tables catching up with our colleagues and meeting with Institute mentors about plans for the year.

But during our conference, Leadership, Leverage & Legacy, the 250 people in attendance definitely had Jewish overnight camp on their minds. They were intently focusing their lay and professional teams on the "off-season" work that is necessary to make the summer months a success - fundraising, board governance and strategic planning.  The attendees were reminded by Rabbi Eric Yoffie of why the work that they undertake matters so much for ensuring the future of the Jewish people.  They were challenged to return to their communities and apply what they have learned to improving the organizational capacity of their camps.

In this issue you will find links to many of the conference resources, including presentations made during the conference, materials we distributed as well as links to other resources.  Even if you were not able to join us in Chicopee, we hope that you will find these items useful to your work.

In just a few short months, we will experience the last snow and ice of the season.  In just seven months, the buses will roll up to the entrance of camps and campers will pile out.  They will live in new and improved cabins, experience enhanced programming and be led by outstanding counselors and staff.  Those 70,000 young people will not know it - but their camp was changed, even if just a little - by the work you did this winter.  And their memories of camp will warm their hearts well into the next season, and its first snowfall.

Best wishes for a wonderful Chanukah - may we all see the miracles around us each day.

Eric
ThinkingStrategicallyThinking Strategically
By Natasha Dresnertest
Are you leveraging the power of thinking strategically? The world is changing constantly and unpredictably, so the best thing we can do for ourselves is to understand, accept, and respond to it by making strategic thinking a new "life style" of our organizations, complemented by real-time, flexible strategic planning. Read on to learn what can you do to more effectively practice strategic thinking...
ResourcesResources, Resources!
Flash DriveEveryone at this year's conference received a flash drive with nearly all of the presentations and handouts from the various sessions pre-loaded. In addition, we have posted most of these materials online (and more!) so that everyone at your organization can download and review these valuable resources.

Don't forget that we have a wealth of resources regarding Fundraising, Governance, Strategic Planning, Legacy, and Technology on our website as well.
MissedConferenceMissed the Conference? Recordings Available!
We wish everyone working at all of our participating organizations could attend the conference in person. However, we also realize this is impossible due to schedules, budgets, and our space constraints.

In addition to providing all of our conference resources online, we have recorded a number of our sessions so that as many people as possible can take advantage of the conference learning.

The keynote sessions were videotaped and can be found at the top of our conference resources page or on our YouTube Channel. And the presentation/audio was recorded (like our Webinars) for a few of the workshops and can be found on the GIJP Conference website.

And finally, you can find many photos taken at this year's conference on the Conference website as well.

Have any comments about these recorded sessions? Let us know!
