Legacy Program Technology Support
Earlier this year, the Grinspoon Institute initiated a Legacy Program pilot to help six camps and four day schools focus on culivating and soliciting Planned Gifts. These participants needed an effective way to track and report on their planned gifts and pledges. For this purpose, we created a document that recommends how to utilize Donor Management systems to support their planned gift efforts. This document has some general tips about the information and reports that will be useful for any organization soliciting planned gifts. It also has a section specific to using DonorPerfect Online, as many of the Grinspoon Institute camps utilize this particular donor management system.

The Legacy Program pilot offers some incredible training, planning support, and incentives to the participating camps. However, any camp that plans to cultivate Planned Gifts can utilize our recommendations for using technology to support their efforts.
Message from Sue Kline, Director, GIJP
Have you read our previous Grinspoon Institute Technology Sue KlineProgram eNewsletters? Have you submitted a question to our experienced staff? This eNewsletter is for you, so please let us know how it can best serve your needs. We hope this periodic eNewsletter will continue to help you utilize technology to reach your fundraising and alumni outreach goals.

This month we provide you with recommendations for supporting your planned gifts efforts with technology. Although our Legacy Program pilot offers additional planning support, training, and incentives, we believe all camps can benefit from the recommendations in this document.

We also discuss Goodsearch.com, a fun way to get alumni and other constituents involved with the camp...and maybe even raise some money.

Don' t forget to check out our Technology Program blog. We have added a number of interesting posts since our last eNewsletter. For example, we blogged about how camps can use blogs, twitter, and social networking sites to build community with their constituents. You can
subscribe to the blog via email or RSS feed (read our Social Networking FAQ if you don't know what that is yet!) to get the blog updates sent directly to you.

Please continue to contact me or the Technology Program team with any ideas to improve the offerings of the Program.

Tip of the Month from Nina Golboro, URJ Camp Harlam
DonorPerfect Online and other donor management systems have functionality to assign each gift in the system to a particular fund or campaign, and then easily report on each specific campaign individually.

In the past, Nina had to create separate excel spreadsheets for each campaign to track their progress. It was a manually intensive effort. Nina has found that DonorPerfect Online allows her to much more easily track and report on gifts in one central location. She uses the "Solicitation" field for this purpose.

The "Solicitation" field options for Camp Harlam currently include their 50th Anniversary fund, the 1958 club, the Scholarship fund, Capital Fund, and even donations solicitated via a checkbox on their camper registration form.

Nina can quickly use the "Solicitation" field to filter her reports in DonorPerfect Online for each specific campaign. And she can track all of the gifts and donors in one place.
This Month's Q&A - What is Goodsearch.com and how can it help my camp?
Question: I recently heard about a service called Goodsearch.com. What is it and how can I use it at my camp?

Answer: Goodsearch.com is a search engine just like Google or Yahoo! (in fact, it is powered by Yahoo!) Each time you search for something in a search engine, advertisements are shown. Each ad generates revenue for the search engine. Unlike Google and Yahoo!, however, Goodsearch.com donates 50% of all their ad revenue to charity.

Each user can specify a particular nonprofit that will receive the ad revenue from their searches. You can even view on their website how much revenue each nonproft has generated through the site. For example, Camp Ramah in New England has generated over $60. They promote Goodsearch.com in a sidebar in their eNewsletter, which is a great way to get people involved.

Besides generating revenue, services like Goodsearch.com keep your camp on people's minds and give them a feeling that they are involved. Find out more by reading our blog post about using tools like Goodsearch to get constituents involved...
