Training Within Industry (TWI) - Leveraging the Role of Supervisors and Team Leaders

 April 16th
6-8pm
Bella's Farr West

2651 N 1850 W
Ogden
  • Increase productivity
  • Improve Morale
  • Reduce Training Time

If you would like to see these results in your own companies, you'll want to attend this TWI overview.  TWI is a dynamic program that utilizes a learn-by-doing approach and teaches critical skills to supervisors and team leaders.  TWI's history begins in the US during WWII as a program used to train replacements for the industrial workforce that went off to war.  TWI was introduced to Japan during post-war rebuilding efforts and is still in use today; most notably at Toyota as part of the Toyota Production System (TPS).  TWI's three programs: Job Relations, Job Instruction, and Job Methods work together to help supervisors:

 - build and Maintain positive employee relations
 - train workers to quickly remember how to perform jobs correctly, safely & conscientiously
 - improve the ways in which jobs are done

If you'd like to learn more about this reemerging movement toward sustained efforts and standard work through TWI, please join us.   TWI is not only complementary to your Lean efforts, but in many cases, it's the missing link.

Please RSVP to Chris Hayes or Paul Harbath to reserve your spot.

Message from the Chair:

Hello  :

The last month has been pretty interesting for the section.  Your Section Leadership Committee (SLC) has been busy gathering information about what would best benefit the section as well as the members.  We have also been putting processes into place to streamline the way we get things done.  We conducted several electronic leadership meetings (as well as our face-to-face leadership meeting in March) and voted on three motions intended to better the entire organization.

1.  The SLC agreed to send six members of leadership to the World Conference.  The World Conference offers a a tremendous opportunity for leadership to gain knowledge and network with other section leaders in an effort to bring long-term benefits to the section.

2.  Based on feedback by our members, the SLC voted to change our event days to the second Thursday of each month instead of the third Thursday.  This alleviates the conflict that existed because we were scheduled on the same day as the Salt Lake section's and Society for Manufacturing Engineer's events.  This change will take effect in May, not in April.

3.  The SLC voted to outsource the design and maintenance of our website in order to insure that current information was provided to our membership as well as those interested in membership with our section.

These are some pretty major happenings in our section and we are glad to make them in support of the membership.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or any member of the SLC.
Last months meeting - Leadership Training

March's training event, presented by Regional Director, Tim Koester, was fantastic.  Tim was able to break down the Section Operating Agreement (SOA) in order to help us understand our responsibilities as a section.  For those not aware, leadership has quite a few rules and responsibilities when it comes to running the section.  We no longer can claim ignorance though, because Tim did a great job of bringing us up-to-speed.  Tim discussed some of the leadership positions explaining the roles and responsibilities of each.  We have several more leadership volunteers this coming year that will help us implement the necessary activities of the section as well as support the membership as a whole.  As a group we discussed several ideas for improving the section next year including introducing some very low cost certification training options for members and some high-end presenters for events.  We are begining to work on the details now and will update everyone as work progresses.  Thank you, Tim, for your enlightening presentation and continuing support.
