Hello from my heart to yours.....

It has been an amazing and busy summer for me! I have those pinch me moments more than I care to think about; wondering is it true the faster time goes is a sign we're all getting older. I'm getting older too!

After returning from my travels with Joan to England, Scotland and Ireland Wayne and I drove to our Colorado property where we were able to actually stay on the property for the first time; it was wonderful the meadows were in full bloom with a new wildflower making its presence known on what seemed a daily bases.

The deer are abundant and roam freely through the property nibbling and napping as the day draws on. A neighbor informed us of a bobcat wandering through to water at the local pond and not let Rosie off leash (we never do) then driving back from the Letter drop restaurant we're held up on the road a bit as a very large brown bear crossed in front of us to the wooded area where cattle bedded down for the evening. They weren't disturbed by its presence so neither were we, just paused to observe in awe as I've never experienced a bear so near roaming freely before.

Flocks of bluebirds and several red tail hawks can be observed daily along with numerous other birds I have yet to identify. The night sky is awesome with there being no light pollution the stars and moon feel within reach. We will be driving down to the property mid September for about ten days, then we're home a week and will be traveling to Connecticut to visit my mother, Anna the first part of October.

I don't know about your neck of the woods but here under the big sky we've definitely arrived at the twilight of summer with the days becoming noticeably shorter, the nights considerably cooler and I've noticed some leaves beginning to turn golden. My eldest daughter, Heidi's shift in work schedules provided me quality time with my granddaughter Caitlyn. It was wonderful! Caitlyn is in first grade this school year.

Entwined throughout summer's blissful days I've taken the necessary steps to found SEEDLINGS OF CHANGE, Inc. a 501(c) (3) Montana non-profit corporation. The purposes for which SEEDLINGS OF CHANGE is organized are: To promote and further recognition of global consciousness, to educate the general public in holistic living, including teachings of self-empowerment and sustainability, through lectures, seminars, study groups, public performances, exhibits, and any and all other appropriate means.

This process is an exciting adventure; I've created the website it goes live this week: www.seedlingsofchange.org I have also created the SEEDLINGS OF CHANGE online community for people to explore creative new ways of living in harmony with each other and with the natural world to affirm the interconnectedness of all life and the values of love, service, integrity, responsibility and leadership.

Who Says "You Can't Teach An Old Dog  New Tricks"?!
by Joan Douma
 Jorgee

Jorgee and I had a little "talk" and decided we needed a change of focus for our volunteer work in the Napa Valley community.  Within Paws for Healing, therapy dogs are used for, among other purposes and venues, such as Hospice and Adult Day Services, for whom we performed volunteer work  since 2002, a program called R.E.A.D. (Reading Education Assistant Dog).  Jorgee loves children and, at the Napa Library, children read a book to Jorgee, while she listens attentively (which IS a feat as she has begun to lose her hearing at age 13), eyes open, alert, while she sits or lies by the side of the child on a small sofa in the children's department.

We have gone to the library for three Saturdays now, making ourselves available from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and we get our exercise to boot as it is half hour walks, to and fro.  It makes no difference the age of the child, 2 or 3, 4 or 5, and unable to read as yet, for some purpose is always served be it reassuring a small child that this dog is safe to pet, brightening eyes when they see Jorgee with her little therapy vest on, or just having a pet from an adult walking through with his/her child in tow.

I, personally, have had wonderful exchanges with the children, and Laurie comes to mind, age 9 ½, an avid reader, who shared with me that she has no grandparents as they are all deceased.  She assured me "I have a large extended family though," and when I learned she is a dual culture individual, Japanese and American, I shared with her what a wonderful gift this  is as she has the "best of two worlds," my having two grandchildren, Melissa and Jessica, who are Brazilian and American and relating how they appreciate learning about and experiencing their Brazilian heritage.

Jorgee has "healing paws" and she is just another example of how the animal and human worlds can mix and mingle and teach and learn from each other in a very positive way and I am pleased and proud that Jorgee and I can make a small contribution to "community" in our area of the world.

Beyond The Secret by Owen Waters

The movie-documentary, "The Secret," skillfully promoted the Law of Attraction and the idea that thoughts become things.

The more you pay attention to things, the more they are encouraged to manifest.

Almost as an afterthought, near the end of "The Secret," it is mentioned that - oh, by the way - you also have to work hard in order to make the grandest of dreams come true.

Much of the focus of "The Secret" is on financial abundance, which is one part of the complete principle of abundance.

Abundance, in its natural, unrestricted state of flow, applies to everything in your life. Abundance in love, laughter, health, joy and material comfort is perfectly natural and desirable. If a person is financially poor when they could choose abundance, then they probably have some issue inside that is blocking the natural flow.

My own secret of material abundance recognizes that work is necessary, but it makes the work easy. Here it my secret:

If you spend your time doing work that you love, you will find such work absorbing. When you are absorbed by work that you love, it seems like no effort at all. As time passes, because your attention is absorbed by your work, you naturally become highly skilled, even adept, at what you do. Then, you become valuable to employers or, in business, to your own customers.

You then, by default, become highly paid or highly rewarded.

"Follow your inner joy" may sound like an overused cliche, but it is actually the key to abundance. It all starts with this key question:

Ask yourself, "What is the most exciting thing that I could possibly be doing right now to enhance my long-term, inner joy?"

The state of regular, conscious thinking often contains self-limiting filters like skepticism, fears, or a lack of self-esteem. So, for the most inspired and imaginative results, ask that key question near the end of a deep, 20-minute meditation session. That way, your inner possibilities can come forward into your consciousness without being filtered.

Then, find a way to do that most exciting possibility. And, when you have finished doing that, ask yourself the same question again. Usually, the answer will be something in the same direction as your first act, although not always.

Inner joy is your barometer of natural flow. Use it to determine what action is the most important in developing your experience of life. Find ways to dissolve self-limiting barriers so that you can act upon that inner joy.

To follow your inner joy is to live holistically because you are acting with more of your complete self. It lightens up your spirit, allowing you to function at a higher frequency of consciousness.

If you are considering a career change, practical considerations do need to be considered. Will pursuing your inner joy earn you an adequate living? If you need to learn an entirely new skill, often the learning phase has to be a part-time endeavor while you earn a living using your existing skills.

The great thing about doing work you love is that everyone can sense the living joy within you. If you are employed, other employers want you to come and work for them. If you are self-employed, customers seek you out, based upon word of mouth recommendations.

Abundance flows because you are in the flow - the natural flow of giving service to help others through your favorite field of work.

The Gift of Warmth by Eileen Gorham

You have a fire to sit by.
You have a warm and cozy home.
You have a family to love and kiss you.
You have the rhyme to write a poem.
You have the sun to shine upon you.
There's a warm breeze to kiss your back.

You have the right to remain silent.
To close your eyes and to give thanks
For the loving friends and family
For the warmth of the summer sun.
To give thanks for the Gift you have been given.
Of the Warmth of the sun.
