Moore Farms
Orders This Week

Okey-dokey, we hope everyone had a terrific holiday, we had a lot of excitement here on the farm: we welcomed our new WWOOF intern* Justin who will be with us at least through the end of the year (the Farm Manager we hired this year, well, didn't really "work" out); former WWOOF interns Sarah and Kent joined us for the weekend to get away from the power outtage in New Orleans where they now live and work; our Mama Hens hatched 6 new Baby Chicks and Mama Duck hatched two Ducklings; three young Goats arrived from our friend Jackie's farm to assist us in our continuing effort to hold back the kudzu on the Southwest corner of our property; and the late planting of Melons, Squash, Beans and Cucumbers are just rocking and rolling with all the good rain. Whew!

*Our farm WWOOF interns find us through www.wwoofusa.org. They live with us here on the farm in a work exchange program and can come from all over the world!

Come see us! Check out our Upcoming Events page for details on our "All Things Peppers Class" here at the farm this Saturday (Registration will be open until Friday at noon!), our Cook's Warehouse Upcoming Cooking Classes, and other events.

Fall Investment Membership Incentive It's that time of year again, each season we offer an extra reason to become an Online Market Investment Member. Depending on your level of Investment ($500-$5,000) you will enjoy a healthy and delicious return (3% - 7%), a Thank You Goodie Bag and Investment Members get two-for-one price for on-farm events. By essentially pre-paying for your orders (our average Member spends $1250 per year on our Online Market) you won't have to enter your credit card every time (yay!) and your support helps us to get some big jobs done. Plans for this Fall include the last phase of expansion on our Packing Shed, adding a bathroom to the intern Corncrib Cabin and the start of our Barn Conversion to make a big new event space. Other Members have noted that they can get miles/points on their credit card as another reason to invest. (If you would like to use PayPal or mail a check we can set that up for you, too.) For our Fall Incentive we'll give our new and renewing Investment Members a $50 Online Market Gift Certificate which you can use yourself or give as a gift or donate for a fundraising event. Cool, huh? Check out the details here and consider becoming an Investor today!

New Arrivals to Moore Farms. . .

Diego the Goat Mama Hen with Baby Chicks
Yes, it was an eventful weekend on the farm with so many folks and critters coming and going! We have two Chicken Mamas and they are sharing the Brood House with their 6 Baby Chicks between them; Mama Duck and her Ducklings live in the Big House with the rest of the Ducks and about 3/4 of our Chickens and the three Baby Goats have settled in to the former "Pig Pagoda" now re-named the Goat Gazebo!

Weekly Recipe
Will's Rice and Bean Salad
Yum, this one is very satisfying for a lunch dish or dinner side. Great for leftover rice!

1. Prepare 1 cups of rice, allow to cool.

2. Saute washed chopped Vegetables of your choice, allow to cool. We used Green Beans, Onions, Peppers for the picture above.

3. Mix together Rice, Veggies and 2-3 can of Beans (we like to use a couple of different kinds, here it was Black Beans and Garbanzo Beans).

4. Add washed, trimmed and chopped fresh herbs of your choice (basil!).

5. Dress lightly with Vinegar, Olive Oil, salt and pepper, mix well and serve at room temperature or chilled.

Variations: almost unlimited! Add a can of Sweet Corn and Hot Peppers, season with Ground Cumin and Chili Powder; use Thai Basil, Rice Wine Vinegar, Ginger, Garlic and Soy Sauce; try one of the new Atlanta Fresh Yogurt Dressings like the Chipotle Lime!
