Moore Farms
This Week's Orders

We hope everyone enjoys the package of Mixed Basils from our farm with Thai, Lemon, Cuban Basil in the mix. We enjoy them in almost any recipe that calls for fresh herbs as they each have really interesting and different flavors. The Cuban Basil is the one with the little bitty leaves, it's got a spicy basil flavor. The Lemon Basil is the long narrow bright green leaves and the Thai Basil has a purple tinge to the center of the cluster and often has a flower head, too. It has a very distinct aroma and flavor that you will recognize from your favorite Thai restaurant. We used a mix of these for our recipe this week, Creamy Pesto Salad Dressing (see below). This is almost like a Green Goddess and will keep in your fridge for about 10 days if it lasts that long!

We're happy to report that all went just great with the orders this week, everything came in as expected from all of our farms and the boxes were really beautiful. If your order from last week had the Okra or Celery that didn't come in we still have you set up in the system for these credits/replacements so no worries there.

Weekly Recipe
Creamy Pesto Salad Dressing
Try this favorite with one or more of the Mixed Basils in this week's Farmer's Pick boxes, it's easy to make and everyone will love it on sliced ripe Tomatoes.

1. Wash, trim and remove Basil leaves from stems. Compost or discard stems, place leaves on a paper towel to dry.

2. In a food processor or blender combine all ingredients and process until a smooth consistency:

Basil (as much as you like)
1/4 cup Mayonnaise
1/2 cup Plain Yogurt
salt and pepper to taste
1/4 teaspoon sugar or 1/2 teaspoon honey
fresh or powdered garlic to taste
1 Tablespoon vinegar

3. Add milk or water until you get the right thickness to pour for salad dressing. This can also be used thicker for veggie dip! Store in the refrigerator in a sealed container for up to 10 days.
Farm Pics (Not For the Squeamish!)
I knew our hens had been slacking off a little bit with the heat this last month but I started to suspect there was a culprit involved when for a couple of days I only collected 20 or so eggs instead of 40! Turns out we had two 6-foot Rat Snakes move into a hidey-hole and were enjoying daily feasts of our girl's eggs! I have a fool proof method of snaring, collecting and releasing them to other areas of the farm where their presence is not so unappreciated and thankfully we only have a couple / few every year give us any trouble!
We're going to start our Tuesday schedule extra early next week so hopefully we can attend!

We are very proud to bring our farmer's foods to your family and we  always want to know what you think about what we do. Send us your recipes, pictures and stories and thank you for your support!
