Moore Farms
Orders For This Week

Okey dokey good times this week as our farms have been enjoying the added benefits of the rains from the last couple of weeks: we had two inches+ here on Moore Farms and some of our folks had more than that! Just a heads-up, the Sweet Peppers in the boxes are absolutely, definitely, FOR SURE Sweet!! The conventional grocery industry has us trained to think long skinny red Peppers are all hot but this isn't so: there are several types, mostly heirloom varieties, in this week's boxes so enjoy!

This weekend is our Moore Family Reunion held every year up at Cheaha State Park in Alabama. If you are ever looking for a great day trip consider this beautiful destination, the highest point in the state. It's just South of I-20 and close to the Georgia State line. The park has a terrific hotel, restaurant, pool (overlooking the valley), camping, cabins, chalets and a lodge for group events. Yes, it's really great! There are several hiking trails (including Pinhoti). Some of the Chalets and one Cabin are dog-friendly, too! This won't be Rosco's first Family Reunion, I'm afraid, he'll stay home with the farmsitter and the chickens (maybe next year!).

No weird unexpected hitches this week, thankfully! If you had ordered the Asian Eggplant last week we replaced it for you in this week's box, if you had not ordered yet we have noted your account and will replace it for you when you do.

We have updated our Upcoming Events page and our on-farm Canning Classes are open for Registration! Check it out along with our next Cook's Warehouse Cooking Classes (the Fresh Pasta Class last month sold out!). You can register for the on-farm classes on our website even when we are closed for other ordering.

Chicken Egg Cartons

Our favorite style of Egg Cartons are no longer being produced so we have been

on the hunt for a little bit now to see what our options are. Turns out pretty much

all of the paper cartons available to us are being produced in China and shipped over

here (big surprise). I kept looking and found a great company in Florida who produces

100% recycled paper cartons in their own Florida factory and they have free shipping!

The only thing is they do not make the 1/2 dozen cartons. We have some 1/2 dozens

left in inventory and we'll keep them back for Duck Eggs, so from now on our Chicken

Eggs will be offered by the Dozen only.

Weekly Recipe
Member Recipe: Mock Stuffed Cabbage

Member Laurie Teaman first sent us this recipe about 4 years ago now: it's still a favorite of ours since it's so much easier and still the great flavors of traditional Stuffed Cabbage.

Mock Stuffed Cabbage

1 large onion, chopped
1/2 cup uncooked rice
2 lbs. ground beef
1/2 lb. ground pork
1 T salt
Pepper to taste
1 large head of cabbage, shredded
1-46oz. tomato juice

Saute onion in a small amount of oil. Boil rice about 3 minutes, and then rinse it. Mix meat, seasonings, rice and onion, and form mixture into balls.
In a roasting pan layer half of the shredded cabbage. Put meat mixture on top of the cabbage. Layer remaining cabbage over the meat.
Pour tomato juice over the mock stuffed cabbage, and bake the main dish at 350 degrees for 1 ½ hours. Leftovers can be frozen for later meals

I just remember this from so long ago.  Nothing could beat my Grandma's stuffed cabbage, but this takes second place.  I hope you will try it.
