Moore Farms
Orders This Week

Finally, a happy glitch in our deliveries this week: Newell Farms had a LOT more Spinach than they first estimated when they called in their weekly harvest forecast so we switched up the Farmer's Pick boxes so that everyone got Spinach! For $20 Farmer's Picks we left the Celery out so we hope everyone is happy with the substitution! Any of our Members who had ordered the Certified USDA Organic Bell Peppers from Florida last week we have noted your account and will replace or credit them in your next order: so sorry for that disappointment, they did not arrive in time for our delivery!

Weekly Farm Recipes
"Toasted" Grape Tomatoes
These are great served on the side of the Strata or any Brunch dish: think of them like the roasted Tomatoes common for breakfast in the UK.
  • Preheat oven to 300 degrees
  • Wash 1 pint of Grape Tomatoes
  • Place in a single layer on a baking sheet
  • Bake for 30-40 minutes or until the Tomatoes are a little shriveled and a touch browned
  • Allow to cool before serving 2-4 folks as a side dish
Savory Brunch Strata
(we made this tasty dish for the Junior League of Atlanta's Tour of Kitchens last weekend)
  • 8 cups Bread, cubed
  • 6 Eggs
  • 2-3 cups Milk or Cream
  • 1 pound Bacon, sliced and cooked
  • 1 cup finely chopped Onion
  • 1 large bunch Mixed Greens, washed, trimmed and chopped(Spinach, Chard or Kale)
  • 1 cup grated Cheese
  • 4-6T Butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

In a large skillet heat 2T Olive Oil, add prepared Mixed Greens and Chopped Onions, sauté over medium high heat until just wilted. Allow to cool.

In a large bowl whisk together Eggs and 2 cups Milk (reserve one cup to add if necessary). Add cubed Bread, season with salt and pepper, mix gently and allow to rest so Bread soaks up Egg mixture.

Check soaked Bread for texture: should be like a wet sponge, some liquid when pressed. If a little dry add up to another cup of Milk. Stir in cooked Bacon, cooked Greens/Onions and Cheese until just mixed, do not blend too well (bread should still be in cubes). Re-season with salt and pepper.

Pour into a baking dish, dot top with Butter. Bake uncovered at 325 degrees for 25-30 minutes or until knife inserted in middle comes out clean.

Serves 8-12

Farm Photo
We had some special visitors this weekend: several Luna Moths were dancing in the light of the Farmhouse front porch. In the morning this one was still hanging out on the front door!

We are very proud to bring our farmer's foods to your family and we  always want to know what you think about what we do. Send us your recipes, pictures and stories and thank you for your support!

Vidahlia's Farm Report
Vidahlia with Grub
Every couple of weeks we'll have a special report from our Farm Manager's daughter, Vidahlia, sharing her perspective here at Moore Farms!

"I like to look for insects on the farm. Grubs are some of my favorites. They turn into beetles. Dragonflies eat small insects. I like Dragonflies. I have found so many bugs!!! I will write more about them another time."
