Orders This Week
OK if Mother Nature will please just hold the rain off for a few more days we'll be doing great! Our stormy weekend weather again foiled our Farm Cooking Class but all is well here with just a few downed limbs and some things tossed around in the yard. The evacuation in the middle of the night to the Barn Basement was exciting when our Tornado Sirens went off! We got another 2.5" of rain so the fields are still pretty wet which makes tilling, weeding, planting, etc., a little challenging. The nice warm temperatures and breezes are helping a lot to dry things out. Will, Garver and Alyssa finished up the new transplant greenhouse (made entirely of materials we already had on the farm!) so it's easier to manage the baby plants and seedlings as they emerge. The Spinach and Kale we sowed in the Fall Field are coming right along and we'll be picking those soon. The Chickens and Ducks have enjoyed the thinnings from the Kale rows, we toss them out to them in their yard. Four Baby Chicks so far, that might be it from the clutch Mama Hen was brooding for us but we'll put another round out under the next Broody Girl.
On to the Online Market Orders this week! Everything pretty much came together as we planned (!) so nothing weird to report, yay!
We are super thrilled to announce our newest Atlanta Pickup Location: Sam Flax on Peachtree in Buckhead has agreed to host our program! This is one of our favorite places to spend and hour in Atlanta with "Everything Creative" and just about any kind of art or craft supply you could want to find. With their handy location, great parking and late hours this site will surely be popular for Wednesday pickups (see details below).
We're glad to offer our Spring Investment Membership Special again (see details below) with a terrific incentive to pre-pay for your orders and gain a tasty return on your Investment. (Investment Members enjoy 2-for-1 prices on Farm Events like our Spring Farm Day!)
Come on out for our Moore Farms Cooking Class this weekend, see details below. Also we have opened up the Spring Farm Day reservations! We have a great time meeting, greeting and eating here at Moore Farms with some Baby Chick petting and Farm Touring in the mix. Meet our new Farm Manager Garver Akers and his lovely family and we'll have a proper Market Tent set up with all kinds of goodies for sale including vegetable and flower plants, meats, cheeses and farm canned goods. This class will explore current food and farming issues and is based on the foundation of an agrarian reading of the Bible. Using a theological lens, we will consider the art, science, and business of cultivating the soil and growing crops. We will till a rich soil of topics to learn about the Farm Bill and other legislation affecting food, eaters, and farms; hear the stories of small, family farmers; consider food as a social justice issue; and discuss urban agriculture efforts in Atlanta. While not a class text, those who want to study in advance may read Scripture, Culture, and Agriculture: An Agrarian Reading of the Bible by Professor Ellen F. Davis of the Duke Divinity School. Sponsored by the Earth Stewards and taught by Martha McMillin, the class will offer good bits of information and good bites of tasty treats at each class. Sunday, March 11: featuring farmers Laurie and Will Moore of Moore Farms and Friends, who provide the flexible Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program that is an option for pick up every Wednesday afternoon at All Saints'.
