Orders This Week
Rain, rain, rain, we should not complain! The Almanac predicted a dry cold Winter so we're actually happy to get all the good wetness. Our baby Spinach and Kale are looking lovely, we direct seeded them in late Fall for Spring harvest. The Kale is especially special:
 | |
Here is our Red Stemmed Broad Leaf Kale: the lacier Red Russian Kale will be weeded out from the rows. This is the variety we started with and saved seed from just the rounded Broad Leaf plants that came up.
|
we have been selecting and saving seed for the last two years so the resulting Broadleaf Redstemmed Kale is our own variety! This will be the first season we will harvest it so very excited. A lot of our efforts for the last two years have been with seed saving and this year we will plant about 1/3 of our field with saved seeds: Tomatoes, Peppers, Squash, Zinnias, Lamb's Quarters, Lime Basil and Arugula, yay!

__________________________________ Box Recycling and Box Graffiti
Thank you to all of our Members who flatten and return our boxes so we can reuse them! If you send us back a box that has been returned already 9 times we'll add an extra goodie to your next order as a thank you! When we pack a box for the 10th time it is always a little bit of a celebration for us on the packing crew, as is the great Box Graffiti we see.

We definitely encourage drawings, stickers, painting and any other ways you would like to express yourself on the boxes. This one is from Member Delphine Lee, a cool red glitter "Love Fresh Veg!". I have been tardy in announcing 10th Box Returns for the last several weeks, these Members will get an extra goodie in their next order! Cathy Waddel, Judith Smith, Janice Parrot, Wendy Gamble, Kathryn Evelyth and Amy Edwards.
