Moore Farms
Orders This Week

Well, we continue the struggles with Tuscan Kale as it did not arrive this week as expected. Farmer's Pick Orders got Swiss Chard or Collard Greens instead and if you had Tuscan Kale for a Custom Choice Order (or add-on to a Farmer's Pick) we will note your account and replace automatically in your next box. All else went pretty well although our Mixed Roots were mostly Mixed Potatoes due to a little shortage in Sweet Potatoes and Turnips. They are lovely and delicious

Chickens on Ice
Last year's Winter Storm sure had the Chickens confused!

Certified USDA Organic local Potatoes! ; )

We have had a few requests from groups to offer a short-term box program more like a traditional CSA. We took a look at this and we think we can make it work! See the details in the Newsletter below if your school, church, synagogue or other community group is interested in a 10-week Farm Box Program.

What a tremendous difference from the terrible Winter weather we had last year! We can take the chilly weather all day long and the bright sunshine does wonders for us after a lot more rain, again. Last year we were iced in a for a week here on the farm: we never had to worry about it before but we realized that the treeline during Winter shades our road so the ice did not melt for several days. Thank goodness this is not something we have to worry about every year, we would have to

A few reminders for everyone about our program:

1. PLEASE be sure to check your Order Received and Order Confirmed emails for accuracy on your order! We won't second-guess you if you put a Pickup Location different than your usual. So if you have us deliver your box to the wrong site there isn't anything we can do about it! If you let us know right away (really right up until the delivery day) we can make a change if necessary. Thanks so much for double-checking your order when you place it!

2. CALL US!!! Please, folks, if you ever have a problem with your pickup (like you get to the location and can't find your box or cooler items!) CALL US!! If you don't call us we can't help you. Always call on our cell number: 256-282-7889 you will reach us wherever we are. Ours is a plain old regular cell, not one of these multi-communication devices! We work very hard to be sure our program runs smoothly but we can't help you with a problem if you don't call us right away. DO NOT email us and we do not get text messages here on the farm. Thank You!

3. Coolers and cooler packs are not to be removed from Pickup Locations. We are missing a few so if you felt the need to take them home please return them to the Pickup Location ASAP! If you have ordered Meat or Dairy Items you need to be sure you bring your own cooler with you to transport it back home: we do not provide coolers or cooler packs!

Truffled Fontina Mac and Cheese

Yes, this is a little decadent but if you want to make a regular old Macaroni and Cheese into something special the Truffled Alexandria (Fontina) from Yellow Moon Cheese Company is pretty wonderful!

1. Prepare 1 pound of pasta according to package directions.

2. To make cheese sauce: in a saucepan melt 2T Butter, 2T Flour, salt and pepper. Cook for 1-2 minutes on medium heat to cook flour. Add 2 cups milk or cream, whisk to blend and cook for another minute or two to thicken.

3. Grate 1 cup Truffled Alexandria cheese add to sauce, remove from heat and stir to melt/combine.
Mix together pasta and cheese sauce, serve!

Variations: Use 1/2 Truffled Fontina and 1/2 another cheese; top with buttered bread crumbs and bake Mac and Cheese to concentrate flavors; add sauteed chopped Spinach or Kale to get some veg in there!
