Moore Farms
Orders This Week

All went pretty well this week though we had fewer Butternut Squash for our first delivery than we planned on so we had Butternut or Acorn Squash for $30 Farmers Pick orders. If you are not familiar with the lovely Asian Green Tatsoi this can be enjoyed with stir-fry, gently sauteed or as a salad green. It is a cousin to Mustard so it has a spicy flavor and nice Spinach-like texture. The Watermelon Radishes are also wonderful fresh or cooked, we recommend using them as you would Carrots. We wanted to recommend a terrific website for CSA box recipes: www.eatrealgood.com. They have a meal planner so you can type in the ingredient from your farm box and get a list of suggested recipes, a great feature! This week we had a fabulous salad lunch with Lettuce, Tatsoi, Apples, Dill, Radishes and Goat Cheese. Yum, yum, yum!!!

We have really enjoyed the weather this week as we have been getting some big farm jobs done with the help of our WWOOFer from Indiana, Damien. We prepared the Spring Compost pile, moved the Poultry Yard fence, dismantled our old mobile Chicken Coop and are designing our new and better one. We are hosting two goats from one of our neighbors so they can visit relatives in Florida this week. Our farm dogs Buddy and Sweet Pea have been hilarious as they try to figure out who these new creatures are (they have only known chickens, ducks and pigs)! Today and tomorrow we are battening down once again as a good cold blast heads our way. See below for last pics of flowers before our frost arrives.

Turkey Reservations are still open, click here to be sure you get your fresh pasture-raised bird (pickup at Moore Farms only). Register ASAP for our Fall Farm Dinner (11/12/11) and Fall Farm Day and Turkey Pickup (11/19/11)! These will be fun and delicious events here at Moore Farms, details are below, listed in the Upcoming Events section on the website. Place your Reservations on the Online Market (it is not required that you participate in the Fall Farm Day if you just want to pick up your Turkey and head back home!).

Roasted Broccoli
Roasting vegetables brings out their natural sugars and concentrates flavors. This method is fantastic for Broccoli we hope you try this recipe for a new taste and texture for this much-maligned vegetable!

1. Wash, trim and cut 3/4 pounds Broccoli into bite-sized pieces.

2. Wash, trim and chop 3-4 Green Onions into 1" pieces (both green and white parts).

3. Toss Broccoli and Onions with just enough Olive Oil to coat, season with salt and pepper.

4. Spread in a single layer on a baking sheet and roast is a hot (400 degrees) oven for 10-15 minutes until toasty and just beginning to brown.

Serving suggestion: add crushed Red Peppers, Soy Sauce or Tamari, Garlic and Ginger and serve with Rice.
