Moore Farms
Orders This Week

Whew, a couple of crazy weeks here as one WWOOF intern (Joshua) left the farm and another (Damien) arrived right when our delivery fellow (Travis) suffered an injury and will be out for several weeks. Will and Laurie are sharing the delivery jobs right now so please remember to call us on our cell phone if there is ever a question about your order on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday! We won't be at the farm number so call us on our cell if you can't find the location, can't find your box or can't find your Meat/Dairy items: 256-282-7889. Anything else like if you find we missed an item when packing your order, etc., please shoot us an email and we'll get back to you ASAP!

We had some changes to our Farmers Pick orders this week: the Sweet Potatoes did not arrive in time so we only had the Custom Choice Order Sweet Potatoes ($20 Farmers Picks got Asian Salad Turnips and $30 orders got Acorn Squash instead). If you have never tried the Asian Salad Turnips (white) raw please do! They are terrific enjoyed raw or cooked, any way you would another root vegetable like Carrots. The Green Beans also arrived with only about 25% of what we were expecting so for $20 Farmers Picks we substituted with our Lima Beans (unshelled). Lima Bean tip: one of our Members last year reported preparing these in the shell like Edamame! Steam and salt, serve for a fun treat (and a little easier, too!). Also we got more Swiss Chard and less Tuscan Kale than we expected so Farmers Picks got one or the other. A happy addition was Cucumbers! They were available so we got enough for everyone to enjoy a nice Slicing Cucumber. Normally we don't have so many "either/or's" for our orders but when the seasons change is usually when we see some last-minute changes!

We have the details worked out for our Fall Farm Dinner (11/12/11) and Fall Farm Day and Turkey Pickup (11/19/11)! These will be fun and delicious events here at Moore Farms, details are below and listed in the Upcoming Events section on the website. Both events are eligible for Investment Members discount! Place your Reservations on the Online Market now for these events. Please note: you do need to register for the Farm Day if you are just picking up your Turkey, only if you want to join in the fun!

Pickup Location Changes and Holiday Schedule

HOLIDAY HEADS-UP: For the week of Thanksgiving (11/21/2011) we will consolidate Atlanta deliveries onto Wednesday only. Due to individual location schedules some sites may not be available for deliveries that week. We will be off for the Thursday Peachtree Center Greenmarket and Friday Birmingham/Alabama deliveries.

Right now the only changes we are making to the current Pickup Locations are the Alpharetta NY Butcher Shoppe and Dunwoody NY Butcher Shoppe. Unfortunately we lost our Alpharetta site when the store closed last week. This is a real loss for the community as well as our Members in that area! At this time we are suspending the Dunwoody NY Butcher Shoppe due to low order numbers. If you are a Member who has enjoyed the opportunity to pickup your orders in Dunwoody while shopping for NY Butcher Shoppe's wonderful offerings we may be able to resume deliveries if we have more demand. Please email us and let us know you want it back and ask your friends to do so, too. If we get enough folks who really want us up there we can resume deliveries in the future.

A few sites that have had low numbers are we are considering to cut from the delivery route are: Simply Fresh in Marietta; Avalon Catering in Toco Hills; Atlanta Fresh in Norcross; Mother Nature's Market in Tucker. If you want to keep these sites on our Pickup Locations list please let us know by ordering and tell your friends! These are all wonderful locations both for the fine folks who host our deliveries and the terrific products and services they provide.

Thanks again for everyone's emails about our Birmingham locations, we still need to see a big increase in orders so please help us spread the word! This week we still had right about the same number of orders we have had for the last two weeks so we're not seeing much growth. Many thanks to several Members who have requested flyers to hand out and welcome to new Members who have recently joined! We don't give up easily but we really need to grow in Birmingham if we are going to be able to keep delivering over there.

Pecan Point Farm Visit

Pecan Point Farm

Will and I had the pleasure of visiting our Pecan and Granola producer last weekend, George and Becky Rogers of Pecan Point Farm down near Tuskegee AL. We got a grand tour of their nut orchard, packing house, commercial kitchen, pastured egg production and grass-fed cows. They have had dramatically less rain this year than we have on our place only a couple of hours North. The Pecans are looking great and we expect to get started on them next week for our Online Market ordering.
Ravishing Radishes
Cherry Belle, Easter Egg, Watermelon or French Breakfast: it doesn't matter what type of Radishes they are most folks don't enjoy these as much as they can. Think of them as Cousins to Carrots! Use them in any dish either raw or cooked (stir-fry!!) the very same way you would use Carrots. In fact, if you get some that are spicy hot cooking them will mellow the flavor.  Here is a favorite simple preparation, great as a side dish for any meal.

Wash, trim and slice Radishes.

Melt 2Tablesopons Butter over medium heat.

Add sliced Radishes, season with salt and pepper and fresh Thyme or Parsley.

Gently saute until tender, about 10 minutes.

We are very proud to bring our farmer's foods to your family and we  always want to know what you think about what we do. Send us your recipes, pictures and stories and thank you for your support!
