Moore Farms
Orders This Week

Hey, everyone, apologies but we are having some kind of formatting problem with the list of Farmers Pick items (same thing happened last week!). We did not have Garlic in the boxes this week, everything except the Peppers for some of the $20 boxes was as we had predicted in the "forecast" emails! Corrected list is below, cheers!

Alright, everything went pretty well this week with one exception: we were short on Sweet Peppers so some of the $20 Farmers Pick orders have two Cucumbers instead of just one. The Portobello Mushrooms did not arrive in time for our order packing so if you had those coming we'll note your account and include them automatically in your next box!

Best of ATL 2011  We were officially notified that we were voted "Best CSA" in Atlanta again this year by the readers of Creative Loafing Magazine!  Thank you so much, this is an honor for us and we appreciate the recognition!

It's been a busy week here on the farm as we continue preparing for Fall Planting, get ready for several Special Events, firm up plans for Thanksgiving Turkey Reservations (!), and wrap up projects with our WWOOFer Farm Intern Kalvin

Hiller as he prepares to continue his journey to his next farm in North Carolina.

5 Seasons Brewing

We have our first Small Plate Special collaboration

with 5 Seasons Brewing Westside this week! Come on out to visit with us and enjoy a Moore Farms Small Plate prepared by Chefs Dave Larkworthy and Philip Rainwater with our farmer's ingredients. The Cask Ale that Brewmaster Crawford Moran is tapping this Thursday is called Big Boy and he describes it this way: "It's not made according to any particular style, a free form jazz odyssey brew, aged on oak and Armangnac. A good bit of wheat, the color of whiskey, with a Belgian yeast that is pretty spicy." Should be pretty tasty! The Cask is tapped at 5:55pm and we'll be there after the Peachtree Center Greenmarket, from about 4:00-6:30 pm this Thursday. Come see us!

Fall Fruit Chutney

This recipe is soooo easy and is simply delicious with Pork, Chicken or even Tofu and Rice for non-meat eaters. Use Apples or the Keiffer Pears for this and be sure to freeze a small amount to enjoy later. The Keiffer Pears are an old-fashioned variety popular for generations in the South for Pear Relish, Pear Preserves and Fried Pies!

Wash, slice and core 4 Apples or Pears.

Chop into small pieces, 1/4" dice.

Wash and chop 1 Sweet Pepper* and 1 small Onion.

In an saucepan melt 2 Tablespoons Butter, sautee fruit and vegetables until tender.

Add 4 Tablespoons Honey or Sugar, 1/2 teaspoon, 2 Tablespoons Apple Cider Vinegar, salt and pepper to taste.

*If you like it spicy add a hot Pepper or two!

Continue to cook for another 10-15 minutes or until the fruit is a bit translucent. Serve with grilled meats or grilled vegetables.

Another great twist is to add curry spices, raisins and/or pine nuts for a Mediterranean flavor.

What We're Reading

Tomatoland

Admittedly our reading hours are limited but this one caught our attention when we heard the interview with the author on NPR a few weeks ago. Even for us it is eye-opening and fascinating with answers to questions we didn't know to ask about how our food is produced in this country.

We are very proud to bring our farmer's foods to your family and we  always want to know what you think about what we do. Send us your recipes, pictures and stories and thank you for your support!
