Torah Talk
In her d'var Torah this week, Rabbi Amy Perlin writes that "The Zohar teaches that when an individual appears before the Heavenly Court, after 120 years, God inquires if he educated his children properly. If the answer is affirmative, God refuses to accept any more testimony against him, for the merit of guiding his children properly overshadows everything else."  This statement from the Zohar demonstrates just how important education was to our ancestors.  The Torah provides many more examples about the importance of giving your children a Jewish education. In our history parents have educated their children in many different ways - by themselves, through tutors, in small schools, in yeshivas and now - in increasing numbers - in community day schools that aim to provide superior academic and Judaic education to the diversity within the Jewish community.

We would like to offer a very special thank you to all of you who have chosen NOJDS this year.  By working together we will continue to fulfill the mitzvah of giving our children an education.  Your partnership is a blessing to us all.

Carpool Directions

New Orleans Parent Club
Today we have expanded the word 'education' to mean everything from math to Hebrew to piano to manners and everything in between.  For many of us, the effort to give our children a well-rounded education - and still get a healthy dinner on the table every day at 5:30 - can feel overwhelming.  Jewish Family Service and the JCC, in partnership with Dr. Topolosky are offering a new program called the New Orleans Parent Club.  This club is an opportunity to socialize with other parents and learn important skills that will help guide parents through the everyday blessings and challenges of parenthood.  Information was sent home with your children today.  Alternatively, you may contact Suzy Lazarus, GSW at JFS, at 504.831.8475 or suzy@jfsneworleans.org.
