New Seasons CEO Shares Passion for Food, People and Environment
Many Oregonians think of shopping at New Seasons Markets as more of a culinary adventure than a chore. And that's just the way Lisa Sedlar likes it. The market's CEO - and Portlandia's August 4 luncheon speaker -- is committed to making New Season's a friendly and enjoyable place to discover food. Sedlar, whose career includes work as a retail grocery clerk and as a formally trained chef, believes that "food is a celebration, not a chore." She is also committed to her employees, community involvement and local, sustainably grown food. Sedlar was recently the keynote speaker at Oregon Business Magazine's 18 Annual 100 Best Companies to Work for in Oregon event, where her market was named the 17 Best Large Company.
 | Sedlar is a formally trained chef who worked her way up through a series of grocery store jobs starting as a clerk. |

President's Letter July 2011
If you are still waiting for the sun in this Oregon summer, perhaps it is time to seek alternative entertainment and growth opportunities. I've found more time to read sitting under the overhang of the back deck and looking out over the tiny forest that is behind my home. Wrapped up and out of the drips, I have been reading Drive by Daniel H. Pink. If you haven't heard of it, here is a clever version in video format: What motivates us?
I have so appreciated feeling supported by what I personally believe to be true about motivation at home and in the work place. Our August luncheon speaker is our own local example of a business that, I think, has seriously considered what motivates employees to go beyond the usual. New Seasons recently had more than 1000 applicants for around 100 jobs at their new store opening in SW Beaverton. Please join us for lunch in August and learn from Lisa Sedlar, CEO of New Seasons Markets what it is that sets them apart.
Hope to see you at lunch next month!
Marilyn Mays President 2011
